Profar? Tht guy was out all of last year, and will miss all of this year.

That would have been a disaster.

Would have been, yeah.

No way to know that a young player like that is going to get hurt.

And I did say Profar, or similar type of player.

I stand by it. The pitching depth should have been used to get a young cost controlled position player.

Feel like we had this golden egg, this abundance of young pitching, not all of which we could keep -- and we may end up only getting a one year rental out of it.

Cardinals 10-4 as of today.Offense isn't pretty, but pitching has been brilliant so far.

Random bits:

Heyward swings like Bourjos.

Carp is an ideal #2 hitter.

Kozma finally became 'man strong', which has added much authority to his swing, allowing him to really drive the ball. He always had the sweet swing and athleticism. He'd be a more than fine everyday SS if we had stuck with him.

GM filled the wrong need. RF, #2 hitter.

Gonzalez down with a shoulder issue is concerning.

Bullpen looks $

Reynolds looking dece.

Holliday's really knocking those singles around the park. Good for him. I mean it.

Matheny coming into his own, finally speaking fluidly and with personality. Think he's really got the gig down now.

Yep, I have always said this as well.

I dont know if Heyward is the answer at RF or not. I think thats why Mo was saying they may visit talks for an extension after the All Star break.

It's early, but I'm not seeing any possible way extending him will makes sense. I don't see his awkward swing ever becoming graceful. I don't see him ever becoming a real power threat.

Can't pay 20+ for a corner OFer who's not going to hit for power, and definitely not when's he's not hitting for a high average either.

Guess we'll see how the year goes, but thinking they've already decided he's not going to be worth signing.

I agree with this. I mean, he doesnt have to be a masher but he has got to have consistent gap power to go along with 15-20 HR.

I guess we will see. Its not surprising the Cardinals are playing a wait and see at this point.

I was onboard with signing him upfront. Maybe saving some money before he had a monster year.

Now couldn't be more thankful we didn't.

Still hoping he smooths out the swing and starts hitting for power. But doubting it.

I'm not encouraged with Heyward either, but it buys more time for Piscotty. We should see him at some point this year.

Lackey

Saw the stat tonight -- best era since like '45

Our 4th and 5th starter are young aces.

That's pretty wild.

And Lackey's only thrown 2 bad pitches. Ok, maybe he's not been quite that good, but take away those 2 pitches for HR's and that stat gets even more ridiculous. And to think that Marco is lurking around and though never healthy, Garcia is probably rehabbing somewhere.

Lackey is this teams number 5, make no mistake.

Going back to last season, Lynn has quietly become one of the best in the league.

Wacha is the next big thing.

Martinez is starting to figure out how to keep his pitch count down, once he does that consistently he will be absolutely filthy.

This might be the year we see one if not all three of these guys take it to the next level.

Rosie with 11 pitches for the save last night, I think I've seen more 1-2-3 innings from him this month than all of last season.

I'd love to see more offense, but with pitching like this, they might still win 100.

Guy's got rhythm on the mound.

(Stealing McCarver's comments) Easy to notice his gas, but it's his changeup that is really special. Can't throw slow pitches in a one run game in the 8th. He's able to get the rhythm going during a start and keep people unbalanced with his change.

Well mother fricker.

For some reason I'm thinking best case scenario is he's out 6 weeks, but thinking he's done if it's achilles.

Could have been the best rotation in club history.

Guess we spoke too soon.

Like I said, one or all three of those bad boys will take it to the next level.

Here's your chance fellas.
