I agreed with both calls and told all the fans around me before they were confirmed. Doesn't have anything to do with cowbells anyway.

Thanks, you've got me some new seats at the Junction.

Apparently, "it transmits, but it doesn't receive"; read where I said I won't ring when the center is over the ball; for the Auburn game, anyway.

Yep, the real reason was just as I said.

Not surprised to see that urban myths are still being repeated. There have been plenty of fights over the decades that involved the use of cowbells, but your version is nothing more than revisionist history.

Not glad to see adolescent behavior that is likely to lead to having cowbells outlawed (again) by the SEC.

Maybe you'll be the first "fan" removed by security -- see Scott Stricklin's comments below:

One of the not-so-cool parts of last Saturday was the 25 or so percent of fans who continue to ignore the rules on cowbell etiquette. This totally perplexes me. Dak Prescott doesn't need fans ringing when they shouldn't to make a dazzling play for our State. Bernardrick McKinney doesn't need fans ringing when they shouldn't in order to deliver a crushing tackle.

Why anyone who professes love for this university would ring their cowbell when they've been told not to do so is beyond me. It's selfish and disrespectful, two things Mississippi State does NOT represent. When you ring at times not allowed, you are telling Mark Keenum, Dan Mullen, myself and thousands of Bulldogs who have worked hard to legitimize this great tradition at our games that you don't appreciate their efforts, and that you're willing to risk having cowbells removed from Davis Wade Stadium altogether in the future.

A vast majority of our fans follow the rules governing artificial noisemakers (which says they can be rung except when the center is over the football). To those of you who do so, thanks. If you see someone disregarding the rules, do me a favor and ask them to stop. If we continue having this issue, security will be deployed to either remove offending cowbells, or the individuals who are ringing irresponsibly, from the stadium.

Remember, we are allowed to bring cowbells into Davis Wade Stadium because the other 13 SEC schools voted to allow it. If we continue to have problems following the rules, then they may decide to rescind that privilege. The last thing any of us want is to have to install metal detectors at the gates.

I appreciate everyone's diligence with this important issue.

May be urban legend, but Jack Cristil is the one who told me.

Guess you are another "who transmits, but doesn't receive".

This is why Mississippi State Security has to start removing people from the stadium that will not act responsibly. You can't leave it up to people to do the right thing when they have no respect for the university or the team.... And yes you are disrespecting both by breaking the rules.

I think it's more precausionary, and solid level-headed fans knew that this was coming based on the game itself. They also know that we are very fortunate that the other SEC schools even allowed us to have this privilege.

I think this is the most forward and direct I have ever heard him speak/write. Normally he is all cheery and positive. But that blog post from him had to be done to ensure that we get to keep the cowbells.

I didn't say anything last weekend, but I for sure plan to let someone know around me that they need to cut the shite with the bell and just yell.

FWIW I thought we were pretty good in the second half.

I think what we are dealing with here is a generational discord among fans. The older ones, like myself, sneaked them in to DWS and pretty much rang when we wanted and no one cared. I graduated in 93 from State and I never went to a game while I was in school that it wasn't hid under layers of clothes. The whole notion of walking past security with it in my bare hand is still odd to this day. Now that doesn't change the rules today and I do agree the university is under a microscope with the NCAA so we need to follow the rules. But part of me also goes back to the old "frick the SEC" mentality that says if we continue to win they will take them away anyway because Gus is going to have to have some excuse to tell Bobby Lowder when they don't win this Saturday regardless of weather the rules are followed or not.

When/if they take them this time -- there will be no "sneaking them in". Scott made that clear in his statement to fans.

I treasure not having to sneak them in. The "tradition" is a helluva lot cooler when there are 25x as many of them in the stadium and ringing responsibly according to the rules which actually only restrict ringing for what? 20 minutes? total of a 3 hour game. That's way better than a couple thousand that got snuck in ringing incessantly. The transition from high pitch to a low pitch roar when the center comes over the ball is awesome as shite to behold if our fans had enough sense and discipline in general to see it and make it happen.

Arkansas 2010 is the best atmosphere of the Mullen era -- and was, not inconsequently, the big game in which we've rang most responsibly.

No. It's an I.Q. thing. I am 30 and have gone to games since I was born. I understand where you are coming from, but at some point you need to open your phucking eyes and realize that you are hurting the program. My dad went to State. He got his bell from a cow and a bicycle handle like you probably did. He's not set in his ways like you are. I'm sure you are a "I hate change" guy, but change is what has brought us to where we are this Saturday. Open your phucking eyes. If you hate change so much, learn to ring the right way or you are gonna be watching from the junction or watching without your bell. I'm sure you will like that change even more.

eta: I ain't even mad. You just sound like a dumbass.
