My Dad and I were at that game.
To understand the implications of this game.
Bama had a 22 game streak over State.
A 28 game winning streak.
A 26 game SEC winning streak.
They were headed to their third straight NC.
We were a good team. Our record was 7-2 coming into this game.
It was not a game for the light hearted. Very physical, hard nosed game. Our defense was lights out all day long. Bama kicked a FG to end the half. We kicked FG’s in the third and fourth quarters to take a 6-3 lead that set up the finish.
It was the loudest I have ever heard a stadium. Period! exclamation point.
Fans were hugging total strangers in the stands as it was total bedlam around Memorial Stadium. We have had big moments since then (Auburn in 2014 and others) but none that equaled November 1, 1980 in Jackson.

Oh and Mutt and Jeff aka Billy Jackson & Tyrone Keys were the bookend DE’s.
Keys caused the fumble by Jacobs and Jackson recovered it.

I was at work, I was still in high school bagging groceries at a grocery store for spending money.
The game was playing over the store's speakers. We all jumped for joy when the call came through, Bulldogs Recover! Bulldogs Recover! Bulldogs Recover! by Jack.
That was a legendary call and moment.

I was there...with a date from Alabama, my college room mate and his girlfriend who were also diehard Bama fans. I was attending Belhaven College in Jackson at the time and got to see that game. I was on cloud 9 but needless to say room mate was devastated....My date from Alabama actually had dated a football player on State's team the year before. She was not as disappointed. I remember leaving the stadium and seeing paramedics tending to an older Bama fan on the grass outside the stadium apparently having some issue but he seemed alert. A day and game I won't forget!!
