-The UGA thriller vs Georgia Tech changed the last 4 bowl spots tremendously and probably screwed Vandy. The Dores only chance at the Gator Bowl was being the sole 8-4 team in the "bottom 4" and now UGA is as well. I expect the Gator to take UGA. Now to the next issue. The Music City Bowl does not want home town Vanderbilt. With Ole Miss being 7-4, the SEC office would allow the Rebels to be taken ahead. I think the Music City Bowl does that without blinking because Ole Miss would bring better attendance, TV numbers, and money for Nashville tourism. Now to the tricky part. The SEC has mandated that a 6 win team (MSU in this case) cannot be selected ahead of an 8 win team (Vandy). The Liberty and the BBVA share the SEC’s #8 and #9 selections and the process is very murky. Straight from the SEC’s official website: “The AutoZone Liberty and BBVA Compass Bowls share the eighth and ninth selections and will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office.” The Liberty Bowl has made no secret that they really want MSU. I think the SEC office allows the BBVA to have the 8th pick this year and they take Vandy. That leaves pick #9 with the Liberty and they take MSU.

I've seen this scenario as well but I have also seen where we and y'all have been picked differently.

I could see Vandy still getting the Gator Bowl. UGA goes to the Music City Bowl. We get the Liberty Bowl and y'all go to the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Anyway a lot depends on the outcome of the Ohio State v Michigan State game on how the SEC's bowls will play out.

But FWIW, I have seen a lot of projections that are placing Ole Miss in the Liberty Bowl and State to the Compass Bowl.

Just FYI

ETA: I hope we get Music City but for some reason I don't think that's going to happen.

Also where does the Independence Bowl stand in all of this again?

OSU vs Michigan actually has little to no impact on the lower tier SEC bowls IMO. The SEC has 3 teams in the BCS top 5 and only 1 will lose. The SEC is getting 2 in the BCS regardless.

I had Vandy pegged for the Gator had UGA lost but I don't see any way the Gator picks a crappy traveling team when they can get UGA.

100% understand this and Music City may favor OM as to Vandy because they were there the two years prior, no?

Also as to my statement concerning the OSU/MSU game I meant it should bump everyone up a bowl if Auburn or Mizzou go to the BCSNCG.

I don't think it matters to lower tier bowls if SEC gets in the BCSNCG or not. Either Auburn or Mizzou will win and get Sugar Bowl at worst. Bama at 11-1 will get the orange. As long as the SEC gets 2 in the BCS (which they will) it shouldn't matter to the lower tier bowls which one.

As far as Vandy to the MCB, I don't see that happening any time soon. Nashville wants tourism dollars and the game wants high attendance/TV ratings. Vandy accomplishes none of that.

I'm hearing that we are a lock to Memphis. I'm not sure how this works out with the SEC because Vandy gets screwed by multiple bowls in this situation, but that is what I'm hearing.

Not really. The only bowl that really "screws" Vandy is the Gator picking UGA over them. Nashville is not an option for them. Then the BBVA gets the 8th SEC pick and takes them. In other words, Vandy would not be falling to the bottom.

Vandy doesn't want to go to Music City. They threw a fit about it last year. They would kinda be getting screwed by Liberty, but you can't blame them for picking State over a team who struggles to reach 80% capactity on senior night.

For the umpteenth time, the BBVA and Liberty share the #8 and #9 pick. If MSU goes to Liberty, its b/c the BBVA picked first and took Vandy.

"The AutoZone Liberty and BBVA Compass Bowls share the eighth and ninth selections and will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office."

That is from the SEC's official release on the official site. LINK

ETA- not flaming you realist but everybody keeps repeating that. There is a perception that Liberty is a "higher" bowl but in actuality, it isn't.

Now now. 99.9% of the general public thinks the same thing. I have showed State fans that release and then they say, "I see that but why would the Liberty pass on Vandy when they have 2 more wins?".

And them I respond with "Did you read the %£#$&@ release?" And then :banghead:

The Liberty used to have preference over Birmingham and Shreveport and used to basically share preference with the Music City. All that got reworked when the conference expanded and people haven't adjusted to it yet

Regardless of whether it is a higher tier bowl or not, which one would you rather go to? I'd say 99.9% of us would say Liberty with the .01% being Birmingham locals.

I'd rather go to Liberty all day but that doesn't mean it has the higher SEC pick. In the day of tons of crappy bowls, the Liberty bowl has been around forever so it has some tradition. Not a great tradition but fans hold it to a higher esteem. Some things are personal preference. For example, I'd much rather go to the Chik-Fil-A bowl than the Cotton.
