Tee Shepard is back in Mississippi.

The talented defensive back left Holmes Community College at the end of last semester to return to his native California and finish out his junior college career. But Shepard was convinced it’d be easier to graduate this year if he returned back to Holmes.

The immediate benefactor of his return to Holmes this semester? Mississippi State.

MSU is in prime position to sign Shepard, who signed with Notre Dame in 2012. He will take an official visit to Starkville this weekend and will likely make his decision on National Signing Day. He told The Clarion-Ledger Wednesday that MSU was the only school he was really looking at right now and is the favorite to land him come Feb. 5.

Mississippi State kept up with Holmes even when it looked doubtful that he’d ever step foot in Mississippi again. His primary recruiter, MSU defensive line coach David Turner, developed a strong bond that could pay dividends come signing day.

“Coach Turner is a good guy,” Shepard said. “I’m not making my decision based off him, but he’s a very cool guy. I really like the school and I also like the defensive coordinator (Geoff Collins).”

A big selling point for Shepard is MSU’s membership in the SEC. He became enamored with the conference while living in Mississippi and has a strong desire to play in it once he leaves junior college. He said Wednesday he likes MSU’s “coaches, stadium and academics.”

He’s previously told The Clarion-Ledger that the Egg Bowl was the best game atmosphere he’s ever witnessed.

That was certainly the rumor. By all accounts, Hev is polarizing.

Cohen said something profound about his baseball recruiting that has helped me chill about this in general. "You don't always get who you want -- but you always get who you are".

I'm not going to let myself get pissed about OL recruiting until there's another drop-off on the field. 2011 was bad -- and that was a combination of staffs' faults. 2012 we asked them to do something different than we had groomed and recruited them to do. OL looked good last year -- and I suspect that it will next year if we can find a right tackle.

Elam to Kentucky. I'm sure that hurts our chances in landing OJ Smith.

I think it will play a small factor. I think had Elam chosen Bama then no doubt he would've flipped, but I wouldn't say he's a lock to stay because he didn't.

There's still a chance OJ flips. But I'm not really sure. Most of what I'm hearing is on Bama boards, so who knows?

Hughes has continued to stay on Pack and things are looking well. There is a family connection there that is really pushing Pack to state.
