Even you are smart enough to know what will happen if Stoops keeps doing what he's doing and Mullen keeps doing what he's doing.

Every 3 star that Mullen gets is a hidden gem. Don't you know that?

Bumphis and Russell were from the transition class of 2009-Mullen's 1st few months. His 1st full recruiting year was 2010.

Stoops' transition class was 2013-his first full season is right now and I'd gurantee our class in summer 2010 was no where near where there's is now.

Does freeze get credit at our sister school for their class? Does saban get credit for AL's class? Obviously they do. So it makes sense to me that if you want to hang the poor recruiting label on Mullen, go ahead. However, I think there's more to it. Chris Kiffin played on relationships of brothers and their friends to get the class they got this year. Plus they see Freeze and Kiffin aren't going anywhere. Kirby Smart is staying at bama with saban and since they aren't leaving, 4/5* still go there. So we need to get a winning staff and keep them here first and foremost. When Mullen has a staff that will put plans together that build relationships with these kids and build a winning mentality, we will rise up and the 4/5* will want to come. I think he's on the right track getting gonzo. Townsend is a wait and see but if he pans out, we could be on the brink of something big. If not, then he was a "name" hire and we need someone else. If we keep having staff turnover, kids aren't going to want to come here.

I got into a discussion with folks on a CL blog a while back and most were happy with 7-8 win seasons. I for one, am not happy with just settling for mediocrity which stems from poor recruiting. And poor recruiting stems from mediocre staff and staff turnover.

Agreed with all this. Our biggest problem is that we STILL aren't really paying our assistant coaches competitive salaries. I think Collins makes $350k -- and every other DC in the SEC is over $500k. We've got to pay the staff to hold them -- and until we do, we don't deserve great assistants. I don't know the figures -- but if we didn't offer Brewster AT LEAST $500k to stay -- then we deserve to remain mediocre in this regards...

I think what's frustrating is that while it seemed as though Mullen had turned a corner with last year's class, he's using this year's class to prove that theory wrong with the quickness.

I think these blind statements that are, in no way, reflected in reality is the bigger problem. Frustration for the sake of frustration -- if you will...

The frick are you talking about? I was being 100% serious. The poster I replied to is talking about how good Mullen's recruiting will be once he gets the staff he wants in place. Don't you think he should have the fricking coaching staff he wants in place by year 5?

Can he? Last I checked, our assistant salary pool is about $1 mil less than Ole Miss -- and WAYYY less than everyone else in our division.

Mullen can't just "assemble the staff he wants" here because we don't pay them enough to pull/keep those guys. Thus why he's left finding "up and comers" and "diamonds in the rough" that bolt from here for big raises at glory jobs with their first notable successes.

I hate to go here because there is obviously nothing we can do about it but I am one who 100% thinks our compliance department fricks us.

Do we think Mr. Freezus is doing it all by himself up there? Hell-motherfrickin-NAW. He has help behind the scenes and no one can tell. So Dan is doing just ok with one hand tied behind his back.

Yep...

Most recent articles I can find is that we paid our assistants $2.2 million in 2012 and Ole Miss paid theirs $2.21 in 2012.

Either way, Freeze is getting it done with a bunch of holdovers from Arky State. People need to stop making excuses for Dan (compliance, money, etc) and start expecting results.

This may be a make it break year for him. I didn't expect to be praying for a bowl berth in year 5.

We need to make excuses for what will be -- even at 6-6 -- the best 5 year run in the history of our school?

This fanbase can never move forward because we're too busy chasing our arse...

We've got 8 seniors total. This is how they are replaced.

Russell - Dak
Perkins - Robinson/Holloway
Autry - Jones
Skinner - R or B Brown
Siddoway - 2 JUCOs, Robinson, etc...
Jackson - ?? Pretty big loss at this spot with no heir apparent
Holley - back up
Nickoe - ?? Cox maybe ??

This year is just a "maintain the status quo" year. Next year is when the next "steps forward" can be reasonably expected.

No. We can never move forward if we are content with 6-6 seasons in year five. Not saying fire dan if that happens. I'm saying phuck being content with that shite.

Why are we havin a 6-6 maintain year in year 5?

FWIW, unlike most people, I don't think having a decent year is out of the question.

Or we fire Allyn McKeen as a national power 15 years before John Vaught because we can't get on the same page as a fanbase...

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be some concern right now. I'm just saying it's over the top to start wanting to get rid of a coach in the middle of best 5 year run in the history of our program -- with the table set to be a contender in year 6 -- or to bash/question the things he's done really well in his time here(taking unranked, unrecruited gems during the summer).

In this discontent, are all these people's contributions going through to roof to make the things they want to happen reality? Since, in reality what those people are actually wanting is to compete with the Bamas and LSUs of the world for titles.

I want/expect better effort and better games in our losses. If we don't get that this year, then we've got a big problem. If we do, I'll be satisfied -- because we'll be bowling for the 4th straight year -- with the perception ready to swing back into our favor.

Why did Jackie go 3-6-2 in year 3 and 3-8 in year 5?

I'm not pointing at you Tds & Beer, but overall it seems like the same people that say this also say that you can't win big at Mississippi State. Those two ideas just seem very contradictory...

If we regain the fire and play with the intensity that we did at the beginning of Dan's tenure, I'm willing to concede this year as a wash with hopefully a 6-6 or better season. I've said all along 2014 is the year that we can challenge the big programs for the West title.

With you...

I want/expect to see the same team I saw for Dan's first 45 games from an effort standpoint and not the last 6. I get that -- I'll be happy -- we will be bowling -- and we'll be replacing 8 total seniors in spots that we almost unanimously get better(left guard and free safety being the potential problems)...
