All it needs is an "in reply to" tab so you can see who is responding to who, which vbulletin has the capability to easily add...

there's a thread view at the top that you can use to scroll through the thread and replies. Then you can go lower on the page and see the actual thread page. And you can leave the forum page with just the subject view.
