After the game, Julius seemed a little irritated by some of his teammates’ lackadaisical effort, and said that while he tries to lead by example, he’s going to have to step up and be more vocal:

quote:

“Effort is just something we should always give, so from that standpoint, it’s unacceptable. …A lot of that stuff, I feel is done by action. I lead by example and I am going to have to be a little bit more vocal with the guys. I need to get on guys when we are slacking, because we can’t afford that next week. We can’t afford that.”

I think this attitude was something that was sorely missing from last years team.

The effort was much better in the 2nd half. They're young and we've seen that before even out of some of the better teams that have come through. Randle will end up being the natural leader though as you said. I think Mays tried last season but he just wasn't on the court enough to really make as much an effect.

I think Mays and Noel tried last year, but neither could really put the team on their back like MKG could do at times.

With Cal being able to send anyone not giving 100% effort to the bench due to the immense depth (something the team sorely missed last season), that will also play a big factor in motivating the guys on the floor.
