We need an alert feature for when someone replies to your comment or thread?

Is it possible to add a feature to this site that notifies a user when someone replies to their post/thread while they are logged in or leaves a note if you are offline? Kind of like other social websites.

That would suck. Most other sites (like facebook or twitter, like I'm assuming you're referencing) aren't nearly the same setup as this. If you had a thread go 20 pages you'd be getting an alert every 3 seconds for hours. It would be miserable.

Maybe something more along the lines of a watch thread feature. Sort of like bookmarking.

I wouldn't mind it. r/cfb has it and I kind of like it tbh but then again that structure is far different from this one.

I get that each person has his/her own threshold for annoyance. Which is why the alert should be optional. Kind of like in your settings where you can chose to turn on the profanity blocker or not.
For the most part I think it would be a great option.
It shouldn't be annoying if it only alerts when people reply only to your post or your comment.
If you start the thread and people are responding to you, I personally feel like you have an obligation to manage your own thread but that is just me. If you get too busy you just go into your settings and uncheck it to turn it off.

Areed. Reading though pages of BS, garbage, and remarks only the mentally handicapped could piece together to see if I have a response is enough for me to say "frick it" and log out.

What would actually be better I guess is if you'd only be notified if someone tagged you in a post. Like @AirDawg anytime someone wanted to make sure you could respond
