How to post pictures to threads/signature/avatar

I am sure this has been covered many times, but I can't get the search to work. I used to have an avatar but it disappeared and I can't remember how I got it there.

Click settings up towards the top right. paste URL for avi and sig in appropriate boxes in settings menu

Looks like I used Imageshack and it is no longer listed as supported. Trying to move to Photobucket. Is this how you add photos to threads too?

when you are replying or creating a new thread, to the right of the text box are a few buttons, click "img" paste url of photo

Moved picture to photobucket and copied address from properties, but no luck.

Just for future reference, I'd suggest using Imgur to host. They rarely if ever go down and it's an easy application to use.
