From Gainesville Sun

There was only one winner in Florida’s quarterback competition. But the guy who came in second also seems to be handling himself like one.

“Kyle (Trask) has been fantastic in practice,” UF coach Dan Mullen said Wednesday. “One of the things we talk about is the development of our guys. All have so much development to do. I think he understands that.”

Mullen said Trask has been preparing himself this week as if he was the starter Saturday instead of Feleipe Franks.

“He’s done a great job working every day,” Mullen said. “Our twos still get a bunch of reps. He’s out there trying to immerse himself in the game plan, understanding he’s one snap away from being out there on the field.

“He’s got to be ready for that opportunity when it comes, be ready to lead the team, be prepared to help the team win.”

In a very close competition, Franks edged out Trask. His mobility and ability to extend plays gave him a slight advantage over Trask, Mullen said earlier this week.

When Mullen named Franks the starter Monday, Trask responded in a positive way.

“Just congrats,” Franks said of Trask’s reaction. “Kyle’s a really good person. He’s always going to be ready if something were to happen. Kyle’s a hard worker and he’s going to be ready if his time comes. He’s very supportive.”

This is good news that we have 2 QBs in case of an emergency

I hope he is ready, no telling when or why we may need him.

All you have to do is go back to 2011 when Brantley got injured early in the season against Bama when we were leading 10-3 I believe and he was out for at least five games...then we inserted true frosh Jeff Driscoll and he was definitely not ready...but made 1 great long run...then got injured....next we put in Jacoby Brissett and he too got injured. We turned to our fourth string QB who was roughed up against LSU.

We went through 4 QBs in a hurry. Brissett made a dumb move after not being the starter in 2012 and transferred to NC State and Driscoll broke his leg early in 2013 against UT. By the end of that year we had to use Skyler Morningweg...who had no business being on a SEC team.

Lets hope Franks is durable.

I've never been super high on Trask. I've been interested to see him play just because I'm not excited to see Franks play, but that doesn't mean I think he is any good.

Can you think of a good QB who only started games in middle school? LOL me either.

UF is just in trouble this year at QB. Plain and simple, but of course we knew that before the season started so it does make you wonder why they didn't take a grad transfer.

But whatever. Whomever plays, I hope they survive and play well.

Nobody is high on Trask (including myself), I don't expect him to come in and light the world on fire.

But I know Franks isn't QB material. People say his faults are teachable, but I just don't think you can fix all of the QB flaws that he has.

I'd rather go with an unknown to start the year, see how he does, if he sucks then we have the experience of Franks and know there's no one behind him. Trask has the size and qualities to be a 'game manager' type of QB, which would have won us 4 - 5 extra games last season.

Franks doesn’t process information fast enough to be a QB. A quality that is unfixable.

And that's the thing: He makes it seem like he can in practice, but as soon as he gets on the field for whatever reason he starts to shut down. I just don't think you can coach out guys who can't handle the heat. At the very least in one off-season. Franks is a multi-year fix.
