Im past the point of if he doesnt wanna be here thats fine. He can go be 2nd banana in the same town as USC. I want a guy who's 100% Gator that plans on being here and winning trophies for the next decade.

Eh, i dont believe it at all. Perhaps Chip being friends with Urban asked him to fan the flames a little to build a little urgency for UF to agree to all of his terms.

So UCLA puts together a grand package for Urban, but not once was known to be in the running for any other top HC candidate before or since?? sounds a little fishy to me.

I agree I want a coach that wants to stay here. What is people's reservations about Patterson at TCU. Just wondering he's had success and rarely mentioned.

He is all TCU imo, and a very good HC. I'd love to have him if i thought for a second it was feasible.

Agreed. As for Kelly if he wanted to be the HC here He would've already been announced. The NFL money, respecting Shannon as interim, etc were all made up to make look like this administration didn't drop the ball.

He is a good a coach but I don’t see him leaving TCU.

I am interested to see what Kelly’s contract will be like after he signs with a team . He is the homer hire this year if his buy out from the 49ers gets us the first 2 years basically for free like USF with Charlie Strong .

Not necessarily. When was the last time a new HC was named before the previous season ended?

Urban was in this same situation and they didn't officially name him until a couple days after the Michigan game.

Who does this sound like?

quote:

Some places, it’s worthless to talk to the AD. They don’t have any juice. They facilitate; they can be a rubber stamp. I know at some places, talking to the athletic director is just like a mere formality.

Some places, you know if the athletic director can’t do anything without consent of the president.

At other places, the athletic director has autonomy.

quote:

really pay attention to what they say. It just kinda depends from place to place. But the athletic director will always play their hand, because they either put blame on them or they’ll say, “Hey man, this ain’t my decision. I can’t do this.”

At some point, when there’s complications, it’ll just kinda reveal itself. Sometimes you can tell immediately from their conversations whether it’s even their decision or not.

There are some things, even with like contract renewals, where I’m just like, I don’t even wanna talk to the AD. I’ll just call your president up, ‘cause that’s who calls the shots. Like hey man, we’re wasting our time here. A couple times I’ve said something similar just to kind of let the AD know: you’re trying to strong arm me, but you know and I know that you don’t got the juice.

quote:

think another thing with breakdowns would be assistant coaches’ salaries. I think head coaches — especially better ones — will turn down jobs if they know that they can’t bring the staff they want.

UCLA has a brand new standalone facility that we don't have.

Wha'? We have a 100 yard indoor practice facility -- UCLA's practice field is 80 yards. They don't have an indoor facility at all, which eliminates private/closed practices which Chip Kelly apparently loves.

Anyway, UCLA doesn't have much of a chance based on two things:

1. To adjust for taxes and cost of living -- UCLA would have to pay at minimum (by my own calculations of looking up tax data), at least 2.3 million dollars more than our offer to be on par. Meaning our 6 million is their 8.3, so he could recoup what he lost in taxes alone.

2. Their facilities are actually far behind ours for the reason I named. They have no indoor facility, which is very important for Chip Kelly.

3. Their football program is barely in the top 25, ours is in the top 4.

So, if you want to believe that Chip Kelly doesn't like money, football or his customs then sure -- get on the UCLA train.

If he's picking a place to retire where money doesn't really matter, nor football -- we never had a chance anyway. We don't want a guy who just wants to chill out.

That's not what he's gonna do, though. This UCLA business got blown way out of proportion. Even UCLA's own insiders don't feel confident in Kelly.

In fact, you and TJ feel more confident about it than they do.

Two more, because he's announcing Sunday.

“I think anybody that's a true competitor likes that,” Kelly said. “I think that's what this deal is all about. You don't want anything handed to you. You want the opportunity to go out and compete each day. That is the one thing to me that was attractive about the NFL. You play more games. You have more chances to compete. It’s always about the competition. If you ask any coach, the fun part’s the games. The fact that you get more games and the quality of the competition every single week is just going to test you, I think we all enjoy that.”

The standalone facility isn't the practice field. It's a 75 million dollar structure with nothing but things to support the football teams health and happiness. We dont have that. Ours is planned but delayed to 2021. If you think they can't spend a couple million to make private practices possible think again.

Their boosters supposedly said they would pay for housing which helps with taxes.

I'm not on the UCLA train I'm just not dismissing the possibility like you.

Do you personally know Chip because people that actually do say it's not out of the possibility he goes there for many reasons.

Like i said we will see. I'm not 100% sold like you that is all.

All kinds of reports that we are moving on from Kelly. I'm not hoping for that. I want him here if he wants to be.

I just want to be done with this season and move on

Florida is planning to meet with UCF head coach Scott Frost “this weekend” and also has Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen and Oregon’s Willie Taggart … along with West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen and Washington State’s Mike Leach as candidates.

Seems far fetched, but id take Leach for the pressers alone lol

Insiders not so confident anymore. Talk is every time it appears an agreement is in place Kelly comes back with more demands. Sounds like a guy that doesn't want to be here.
