That was a legitimate quality win last night

Auburn is not a great team but they are a legitimate SEC caliber opponent. Not FAU, Long Island or Campbell. They are a real program with a promising coach and resources. Yes they’ve been really bad like us the past five or so years, but they are an actual opponent.

The issues with this team are obvious, but this did not feel like a smoke and mirrors. We got lucky that Auburn derped it up type of win, like the Tennessee under Butch Jones and Kentucky games when we had Muschamp and McElwaine.

It was far from a perfect wind, but it wasn’t like a “win is a win, why are people complaining?” Disney Gator propaganda type win. We were the much better team.

The offense has improved by leaps and bounds. I think everyone anticipated some improvement, even the most pessimistic of us, but this offense is legit.

I honestly think it has potential to be better than 2020. No it won’t be as explosive as a passing attack, although it is pretty explosive at times, but it is much more balanced. A lot of people blame Todd Grantham’s defense for the losses that we suffered that year, which is definitely a valid complaint, but that year the offensive line was absolutely putrid, and we had no running game at all. We did have some decent running backs in Damien Pierce, so really that fell all on the offensive line and that Lowe’s shelf stocking fat frick Hevsey.

Which brings me to my point on the offensive line. Maybe Auburn has a worse from seven than we thought but I thought the offensive line did a really good job last night at least. I think they only gave up two sacks and they were able to create enough push for baugh to do his thing. But let’s not forget that Duke Clark also ran for a touchdown and I’m gonna amount of yards too. I think we had almost 250 yards which is pretty remarkable for a road game against an SEC opponent that was expecting us to run the ball a lot.

The defense kind of sucks, but the defensive line was able to get some good pressure at times. I wonder if the game plan was to try to really prevent Brown from running and let him try to beat us with his arm which I guess he was able to do at times.

We will find out a lot more about this defense when they face a potential Heisman winner next weekend, but I think if we can improve their this team can be a potential college football playoff participant, though I don’t know if we have enough talent on defense to make a deep run.

Overall, the main complaints of yesterday’s game was that we didn’t beat them by enough points or as badly as we should’ve. It is a promising sign that his program is heading in the right direction because at least the fans are upset that we’re not winning by enough instead of trying to build a statue for a coach going 7-5 and celebrating any win like it’s the Super Bowl.

The Gator Standard is on its way to coming back, but there’s still a long way to go.
