"[Taven] was superfit when (Will) Muschamp was running the program," Bryan's father told Adelson. "What that guy [McElwain] did in the Mountain West, you can’t do the same [expletive] in the SEC."

quote:

1) The weight room was never looked after very well. Things were left everywhere, which would sometimes cause things to go missing, etc.

2) There really wasn't a sharp eye on proper form at all, and the overall feeling was that supervision was simply not what it should be at a DI program.

3) The strength staff itself often wasn't on the same page, from Kent to some of the assistants. I don't believe there was ever much mutual confidence in the direction things were going or needed to head.

4) At one point, a prominent player (Taven Bryan) was disgusted with all of the above and went directly to McElwain complaining about it. He pointed to a particular player on the team as an example, pointing out that this particular player could be a top NFL Draft pick but instead looks fat and out of shape.

5) There were a sizeable number of players, particularly guys with NFL aspirations, that felt the S&C program wasn't doing enough to adequately prepare them and so they had also been working out regularly at a professional training facility in town. Some of the guys that this were Brandon Powell, DeAndre Goolsby and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

6) While recovering from shoulder surgery in the summer of 2017, Luke Del Rio worked out a local gym in town. It is unusual for a player rehabbing from a major surgery to work out away from team facilities, unsupervised. It's entirely possible he didn't trust Florida's strength staff.

Sherit confirmed it, too. He said that there was never any "team" vibe in the S&C and that they weren't challenging at all, the workouts.

Also said that he's glad Mullen is calling the Offense so "Quarterbacks can't bitch".

Been pretty much confirmed that Sherit was talking about Franks when he made the remark about Quarterbacks bitching to the coach.

It was pretty clear the S&C staff sucked when the starting MLB has a beer gut.

Shark fricker preached about getting better every day but ignored the S&C situation.

Dooley confirmed that Stricklin was aware that S&C sucked. It was part of the ongoing tension between Mac and the UAA.

Complaining about Nuss or other players or what?

He said that the Quarterbacks wouldn't have anyone to bitch to because Mullen calls his own plays. Other people "in the know" said he was referring to Franks complaining to McElwain about Nussmeier's playcalling and apparently most of the defensive players weren't buying it.

He's not the first to voice his opinion but he's been one of the most candid.

They weren’t buying that the playcalling was atrocious?

I think Franks limits a lot of the playcalling, we didn't really see a problem with the offense in the Kentucky game. It's hard to call an offense for someone who can't see the field, navigate the pocket, doesn't see blitzes and doesn't understand blocking schemes who "never had a Quarterback coach".

Quarterbacks bail out bad playcalling all the time, and Franks bitching about it is just another sign of a sinking ship.

Junior defensive end Antonneous Clayton had some strong comments about the impact of new strength coach Nick Savage. “I think it’s just plain and simple — I don’t get tired anymore,” Clayton said Friday after practice. “I think that explains a lot. I’m able to play full speed, play my gap, play my technique and get off the ball every snap. I think with Coach Savage’s program and with those guys on his staff, I just feel better as a player.” Clayton, the Gators’ top-ranked signee in 2016, also talked about his expectations for 2018.
