He also wasn't that good at recruiting until this year. His classes were average for USF.
So continue to pump him. Your FSU colors are showing

I do like Taggart a lot because of his recruiting. I felt like he would get our recruiting back where it needed to be, and if he could win games once he got the talent right then great, and if not then the next coach would have a ton of talent.
For FSU, he will only be able to maintain the already good recruiting that Jimbo had brought to FSU. They averaged a top 5 class under him. Good recruiting is not going to be something new for them. However, it's a HUGE step down Xs and Os wise. I think they'll win 8-10 games every year, but I don't see Willie Taggart going head to head with Dabo Swinney, Justin Fuente, and Mark Richt successfully every year.

His recruiting prowess is exaggerated, but it doesn't really matter. FSU already recruits well, the question is whether or not it is an upgrade in on-field coaching and there is absolutely nothing to indicate Taggart is a better gameday coach then Jimbo.

UF used to recruit well too.
Would like to get back to that.

Ehh, we had a top ten class without a HC. Anyone can come in and recruit. You guys really, really don't like to hear it but Muschamp was going in the ''never going to break the top 20 again'' direction of recruiting and McElwain as picking up the pieces. I don't envy any coach trying to sell the Florida offense.

You don't need to pick up the pieces. Mac was simply not a good recruiter. UF is a good enough position, that him having two straight classes of no five stars is rather mind boggling. Corral should be a five star in my opinion, but still. This class ALSO had no five stars. His first class that Muschamp helped recruit landed his only two five stars.
Not good enough for UF. Our classes have been Miss State level the last few years.
Now it's time to get back to UF level. I don't expect Meyer like recruiting, the man may be the best in the game at it. I do expect a top five class at least once every three years, the other two being top ten unless small classes. I expect a high blue chip ratio, to land five star players, and to win back the Lakeland/Jacksonville area we had under Meyer.

He turned the #98 recruiting class into the 21st in a transition year, had a top ten last year and was well on his way to a top 5 this year, along with the number 1 in 2019.
He absolutely was recruiting well, but as I said: He needed to fix the first year, then manage the outrageously bad roster left behind for him after Muschamp (who recruited poorly at LB, DL, OL, RB and QB before leaving) the second year.
Then the third year it all just went to hell with the 9 suspensions, season ending injury to Harris, season ending injury to Trask and of course a star receiver who had a heart problem before the season started.
Say he's a bad coach, but he inherited an outright mess and actually was turning us around recruiting wise before the wheels fell off.

i agree. i don't think mac was the guy to get our program back to the next level, but he didn't completely shite the bed like muschamp. mac had some success here. having a down year and rubbing people the wrong way isn't a good situation.

Sorry but you are wrong in some areas
QB - HE LEFT HIM WILL FREAKING GRIER
LB - We had a decent group here, Mac just didn't recruit any good replacements for Alex and Jarrad both great Lb's
DL - Defensive line wasn't an issue. Needed another DT when he came in because Holley and Clark were bust
WR - Worst position in terms of misses for Champ for sure

...One quarterback who couldn't play for an entire year because of an NCAA violation, who was a pubic hair away from being banned forever?

Who was after them? He left us good LBers, but didn't do anything to recruit after them -- it was a common problem with roster management.
That's what I'm saying. He left great players on one side of the ball, but completely neglected their backups.
Look at how Kirby in his second year has 51/54 upperclassmen and is starting 18 juniors and seniors -- that makes the next coach's job much easier.
We started, now for two seasons, the majority underclassmen and in our third year (when we should be loaded with upperclassmen) we started the opposite of Georgia -- 18 Underclassmen.
He recruited great players on defense especially, but he had no idea how to manage them numbers wise.

You can't seriously blame Muschamp for Grier screwing up.
How about his coach....MAC. Who had ZERO CONTROL OF HIS PLAYERS OFF THE FIELD?!

Meanwhile, Fsu in a heated battle with Indiana and USF for a QB named after a dick

I don't blame the coaches for Grier, I blame Grier for Grier. If you don't know this day and age to not do PEDs or risk getting the banhammer, you've probably little between the ears.
However.
I do blame Muschamp for running Driskel out and not controlling his team over that. I never saw guys congratulating Driskel for touchdowns, trying to make him part of the team -- he'd often just go sit by himself and no one ever even tried to give him a chance.
As an HC, you have to see that and you can't be like: SINK OR SWIM, HURRR. You have to help your players out, even if it means getting them grouped together working as a unit.
McElwain took over a team with a losing record over two years before he arrived, doubled the wins and cut the losses in half.
The team also had one scholarship quarterback who was actually going to see the field as a quarterback after Grier.
So yes, Muschamp only having one quarterback on roster that he didn't outright destroy (Driskel) after Grier is pretty squarely on Muschamp. Him also giving up on recruiting and fricking us over for that class is also pretty squarely on Muschamp.

I heard Slick Willie was a really good recruiter?

Lulz have you seen who's getting CB'd to them:
Malcolm Lamar
Warren Thompson
Dennis Briggs
Tre'shaun Harrison
Isaiah Bolden
Josh Corbin
We'd all be flipping excited if they were coming here.

Yep. We have a decent list piling up as well. You are just to negative to let it happen.
It's like you expected us to keep every Mac recruit, for a completely different offense.
He wants bigger safeties, bigger WR's, and a bigger QB. We lost a few we wanted to keep, but that's because we cut their assistant coaches. I'd rather lose a recruit than keep a coach not good enough to coach here.
