I like Franks but I think we go with LDR. Thoughts?

I said pre-season...don't sleep on Del Rio.
He's not a bad qb.

Both were benefited by KY defensive micsues, LDR threw a dumb pick and missed Tyrie for a td on a post.

Until we can get a coaching staff that can coach up QBs I agree. I would like to see a QB with talent out their but we are stuck with transfers . It sucks to see UGA have true freshman start in back to back years and we can't even start a red shirt freshmen because he looks like he doesn't have a QB coach .
We have the most weapons on offense that we have had in years . But our coaching still sucks .

LDR, that's who the staff is most comfortable with. He also knows the offense inside/out and gets UF into right checks and protections. It's understandable.

I said before the season started that Franks would not be ready to get his taste of real snaps in a game. Look at high school film, his Under Armour AA high school game and his first spring game...what do you see? I see a potentially great QB who is too excited and pumped up, a skinny (6'6", 225 is skinny)QB who needs 15 lbs of bulk added.
LDR was injured and had fans turn on him unfairly. He should have told the coaches how sore his shoulder was before the Arkie game...remember that Mac said LDR couldn't even lift his shoulder bag at the airport leaving Little Rock.
He is now `100% healthy and knows the system inside and out. He can throw with some velocity and practiced a lot during the summer strengthening his arm. His dad has the means and connections to get him the best in trainers and tutors.
Imo he certainly needs to start and should have played in the meatchicken game instead of Zaire. I just couldn't believe he didn't get in. While he wont dazzled you, he will usually make the right calls and can read defenses a helluva lot better than Franks at this stage. He understands the game philosophy from growing up with an NFL HC as a father.
We have to improve on making the offense effective on third downs...resting our defense. While Malik Davis is turning out to be very effective at running, he cant always be on the field on third downs if we are throwing...he just hasn't had the time to learn blocking techniques. I did notice on one play that he and Mark Thompson were on the field together and Thompson helped seal a block to spring him. Thompson and Perine haven't been stellar at pass blocking themselves...mainly because they have been out of position at times. I like Thompson as a receiver (Outback Bowl)more than Perine.

LDR is not an SEC caliber QB - but it looks obvious, based on how the line play immediately improved with him in the game, that UF needs him in the game to MANAGE the offense.
Franks has way more talent, but the game is obviously moving too fast for him still, and he doesn't even have enough mastery of the offense to make the line calls.
UF needs a steadier hand, and LDR may be that guy as long as he doesn't get hit too much.
Based on UF's history though, they both need to be practicing a lot because they need to be ready to go.

Left with entirely different types of offenses. Two five star running backs, a five star running back and a line that had something like 58 starts more than our line.
The line looked way better with Del Rio, and his pocket presence moved us down the field along with his checks. Easy 6 or 7 first downs can be attributed to him, and a lot of big runs that worked because he checked out of them/audibled.

I say we put Toney in and let him go with it. I feel very comfortable having him touch the ball have the ball in his hands every play

We've seen him throw one pass off of a trick play, I have no idea if he could run the offense. We need a game manager who can get us down the field in pieces, and open up the running game.
We got it in Del Rio. I don't even think it's a debate at this point.

Toney needs at minimum 10 touches per game.
Cleveland Toney and Davis had 33 touches yesterday. I think that number should probably be at about 40, in a 70 play game.
If UF does that is should open stuff up for other guys to make big plays, like Powell, Hammond, Swain, and the TEs.

Dude this entire team is made up of Mac players. If they aren't good enough it's on Mac if they aren't getting good coaching it's on Mac. UGA is starting freshman at OL and QB. they thumped a good msu team. A week after beating ND.

Once again you completely ignore about 80% of the comment.
They have two five star running backs, they have a five star WR.
Also, they have one freshman and one redshirt freshman. They have two redshirt juniors and a senior on one side of the line, a freshman and a rs freshman on the other end. They still have seniority over our line. One freshman, two sophomores and two juniors.
Line's younger, three star freshmen and sophomores have the majority of our production and we lost both of our impact players due to fraud.
Totally different teams that were walked into.

I believe the team has more confidence in Del Rio at this point. They actually seemed to play harder when he came into the game. His experience made the difference. Del Rio should be the starter until something changes.

LDR doesn't have the arm strength to be SEC caliber. We lose the deep threat when he is in. We don't beat UT with LDR in on the final play. And while he may be good at audibles and check downs, there's been times where he hasn't seen the open WR and just checked down.
I dunno. He impressed me Saturday. But can he win us the East?

Franks has to learn to take whats there. On the deep pass to Tyrie, BP was w i d e open going outside for a good 20 yard gain.
He knows he has a big arm and tries to go for the big play and misses other plays that are there. Kid needs experience

How about can we win the SEC with him at QB? That's the better ?
Posted on 9/26/17 at 2:18 am to TJGator1215
We can't win the SEC with any quarterback, you mook. Why the frick do you think we should hang with Bama when FSU, who has an HC for seven years can't?
Still got some building to do, but it's coming along.

I watched some of the Ole Miss-Cal game and was shocked at how badly the rebels played. That true soph QB of OMs # 20 was the flavor of the year at the end of the season last year.
I can tell you right now he had the deer in the headlights look against Cal who has a slow defense. Dude only played a few games last year because Kelly got hurt...so he probably only has 6 games of starting experience and didn't get bowl practice since OM was horrible.
The moral of the story is that talent alone is not enough....QBs need snap experience also in the SEC. It is obvious (and was before season started) to me that Franks just isn't ready yet...but we need to insert him at times to give him chances to learn if the game isn't on the line.
A damn lot of great QBs have been benched, including our Heisman winner Danny, who was bench at least twice by Spurrier. Being on the sideline can be a teacher and of course players want to play...that is the motivation to get better and learn as much as possible.
Del Rio has been treated so unfairly by UF fans who wouldn't know a football if it was stuck up their arse sideways. LDR has been a tutor to our other QBs and has been unselfish. He deserves to start unless he really falters. We have so many weapons now on offense that he can rely on to move the chains. Vandy, LSU & A&M are up next all in the Swamp.

This..............there were so called fans on this board that were going to jump off a bridge if Del Rio started this season. Looks like he may be the man for a while now. Go Luke, Go Gators, Beat Vandy.
