I say this all the time about Mullen but we will always win the special teams aspect of the game with Mullen. The punt at the 1 and the and the punt return flipped the game.

We will always have great special teams and great qb play with Mullen. Once the defensive side of the football is figured out; we are going to kick start a dynasty.

ETA: fake punt was big too, kept the drive going to get an early lead.

The biggest problem is that there aren't many metrics to grade for Special Teams. I'd say ours is one of the best in the nation from every aspect save kick return (but we'll get better with that in the future).

I used to be on another football board back in the day and they used to advocate that their should be a “hidden yards” stat. That stat would be evaluated after the game was over and uploaded to a website the next day. For instance fair catching at the 20 could potentially be 15-19 hidden yards as the punt could take a roll and you get pinned inside the 5 or the 1. Everything was based on worst case scenario.

Another example would be if you missed a 45 yard field goal, you would have given up -25 hidden yards back to the other team based on worst case scenario of punting through the back of the end zone.

Damn I wish that board was still around.
