Mac had a bad break with the Grier scandal. We were 6-0 in 2015 coming off blowing out #3 ole miss and mizzou. We replace him with Treon Harris who was not good and still managed to go 10-2. If we had Grier, we had a real shot to go undefeated in the regular season and who knows what may have happened in the SECCG. Grier was only a redshirt freshman so we would have been set for the next 2 years. In 2016 we go 9-3 despite average to poor qb play (Del Rio / Appleby).

He had a bad break but also mismanaged it.
I do think if Grier didn't get suspended we might have had a chance to go on a real run in 2015-16.
But Mac screwed up by pushing him away and replacing him with Appleby and De Rio. Both those guys were mediocre but couldn't overcome the Nussmeir scheme and play calling.
Ultimately, based on what he's done at CMU since, he doesn't have the mentality to deal with the pressure of this job. But despite that, he might've done something with that defense and Grier.
His recruiting was not amazing at first, but it seemed like he was coming around in his 3rd season before it fell apart and he folded under the pressure. It falls on him for going out like a loon with the fake death threats, but I do believe the media and social media pressure was what led him to crack. If it was clear that he would've gotten 2018 to be the make or break year, we could have kept some of that class together and wouldn't have hired that dipshit Dan who really killed this program with his nonsense.
That said, as much as I blame Mullen for the hole he put us in, Napier is fully responsible for the arse kickings we have received this season. I gave a pass for year 1 and have been patient this year but I cannot blame Dan for losing to Utah, KY, and UGA this year.
Napier has his work cut out for him.

My post yesterday was reactionary and done out of frustration. I know Napier is not getting fired.
But, his in game, on field coaching decisions, as well as his overall play calling is well below average. It's really not even debatable. Our O line and his 2 coaches suck. Our special teams makes at least one glaring, costly mistake every game. Our defense, is undisciplined and lacks effort sometimes. We run into 8 and 9 man fronts regularly.
I get the frustration.
Doesn't help that our worse years this past decade
(2013-14, 2017, 2021-23) have also had two hated rivals peaking (FSU under Jimbo, UGA in 17 and now along with a FSU revival of sorts in 2022-23).
I am fully on the train of him getting a new OC and play caller, preferably one with a different philosophy.
The OL coaches can hit the road as their recruiting is basically on par with Hev and their coaching isn't good enough to warrant keeping them.
Special teams, yeah, no need to say anything about that (interesting to point out that Lincoln Riley also doesn't believe in having a specific Special Teams coach, and their special teams also suck).
Defense still sucks but seems to have improved a little bit since 2020-22. I know that sounds sunshine pumper-ish but I think we forget how bad it was under Grantham and Toney. It's still not acceptable and needs to get better, and get better fast.
I'm also not crazy about Hocke as S&C. I can't say if it's just that our defensive players are young and inexperienced or if they suck, or if the S&C coaching isn't getting them in good shape, or some combination of both, but they don't play with speed or intensity at times (Marshall showed a little life yesterday after the game was well in hand on one series, but a good amount of the time they seem like they're a bit flat.

I agree with The the S&C coach
I think Hocke has been terrible look at the Desmond Watson Situation the dude is still 435 if Savage was here I guarantee that guy would be in the 380 range and probably really could be playing alot of snaps. My gosh man I just can not get my mind wrapped around why they can not get weight off of this guy. It seems that Hocke and Napier have no plans for Watson.
It's unfortunate because I really think if they got him down to the 360 range he could be very solid

I’m not opposed to getting rid of Hocke. Using Watson to prove the point is kind of silly though. At what point does the kid hold himself accountable and stop eating double/triple cheeseburgers and get in the weight room, condition extra to cut the weight?

Watson can be used as an example, but not the prime example for why Napier needs to move on from Hocke.

Just a low football IQ program right now. Sad but true. Players, coaches, everyone.

Absolute shite job in OT..pathetic tackling and execution

Billy’s floor is 8 wins next year. I don’t give a frick what the schedule or recruiting looks like. This is a disaster.
Piss poor game management, shitty arse play-calling, and dumbass mistakes. Combine it all with some gimmick bullshite uniforms and it’s the perfect storm.
Win or get the frick out. The end.

Unbelievable Napier and his low IQ decisions that got us into OT.

Agree 6-6 three straight years is unacceptable at a big SEC school.

IDGAF how many 4 and 5 stars he recruits. He is a walking clusterfrick, when it comes to managing a football game

Yep and not letting common sense overrule the analytics sheet he has. Did that mess last year also.

Probably the must accurate description I've heard. Excellent!

The special teams scrambling to get on the field when we just needed to spike the ball is just classic for this team and staff. They haven’t corrected basic personnel issues 9 games into the season.
Posted on 11/4/23 at 5:25 pm to gatorsimz
And that's 100% on the lack of effective coaching. The kids have zero blame here.
Posted on 11/4/23 at 5:30 pm to SeaCay
Hopefully we aren't saying this next season and he gets his act together. Worse game mgmt than a high school coach so far.
Posted on 11/4/23 at 8:51 pm to Gator Fever
Agreed, but I think we both know that's not likely to happen.

How many games will we have to win next year to for BN to keep his job

Nah, I get it…no HC will touch this job with the #1 toughest schedule in the nation. It’s going to be rough for Billy. He’s going to take a lot of L’s before he is sent packing. Just a matter of when to make the change.
