Watching more, I think the biggest issue with this defense is situational.

Has 8 sacks already, 17 TFL. They broke up a lot of passes last week and have had a lot of QB hurries.

But they just kept screwing up 3rd and 4th down. The situational defense was really bad.

They have given up 20-38 conversion attempts (3rd or 4th) this year. If that gets just a little better they can demolish people because of the offense.

To be fair 5/7 of that is 4th down.

If they would focus on tackling and gap discipline in practice, they would instantly be a better defense.

Except for the opposite reason, and sorry I'm gonna bombard the post with images but it's kinda my thing.

If we blitz or play press, we usually get to the QB and cause problems. If we play soft, we get converted almost every time. Why Grantham doesn't do what he does best infuriates me.

3rd and 10, our safeties aren't even playing the line to get and instead are lined like 15 yards off of the LOS. Giving a lot of cushion, no blitz, first down.

Same down and distance, safeties are playing the line to get and we blitz. Soft coverage doesn't matter because it's a sack.

Same down and distance, another stop. This time we played press man and knocked the ball away.

4th and 4, our players are giving cushion, our safeties are well off of the LOS and of course we're not blitizng. The player in the box is covering the RB.

First down.

I have more, but it's just obvious that his moniker has neutered him. He's now afraid to play high risk, and this is the year to do it because our offense can actually get results. He has been playing very, very conservative and it reflects in these images. I'm sure if I go to the Ole Miss game I'll find the exact same thing.

We blitzed and had pressure every time we did it and Colin Hill almost never went up over top and I'm not sure they caught one ball over our DBs.

Grantham's gotta get his nuts back. Start taking hormone replacement therapy and get some testosterone in that sack.

So he's still 3rd and Grantham, just for a different reason

Yes, exactly.

Like this whole time he's been here I've been waiting for the big booty blitzes on third and long. I actually don't mind because we have good DBs. So let them get up and get physical, jam, if they get beat okay, they beat us.

This defense is more like: "We really don't want to give up big plays...so we're just going to let you go all the way into the red zone and score because that makes more sense than letting you score fast and letting our fantastic offense wear the opposing team down. ^-^"

Defense is full of young, fast athletes. They’re thinking too much.

Just let them loose and see where we end up

Seriously.

They're athletic, fast, young, chaotic and most of all: extremely talented.

If you're at Florida, you're going to be on an island and you're probably going to get burned a few times. It's life in the offense, we should be letting them do what they came here to do and start using the safeties in closer coverage/run support.

If we get beat like that, okay, cool, they played better than us.

It doesn't HAVE to be the year to beat Georgia. It's a top 5 matchup and they still got way more exp depth

Yr 3 remember. Still using Mac QBs remember all the DL talent we landed last yr still young af

But to think we cant outscore Georgia and beat em this yr is complete defeatist BS we coming out mad af this yr

It doesn't have to be this year. But this looks like your best shot.

As soon as Kirby stumbles into a gamer QB (an actual gamer, not the Mailman) then it's pretty much lights out until Mullen gets his own style of QB to start.

not sure it'll be Emory.

Hopefully that's the Vandergriff kid.

I don't see it with him either. I haven't seen ARod play but Del Rio looks to be in the mold of Dak.

AR15 is the real deal. Just a monster. 6'4'' 233 pounds as a freshman, he's what Mullen is looking for. Jones just isn't progressing, but I'm sure he can run the offense for next year if he doesn't transfer or Trask doesn't come back. (This is a free year.)

Trask seems to really like it at Florida, so if he comes back it might actually help transfer between Trask to Anthony Richardson, Carlos Del Rio/Kitna.

Serial killer lookin' dude, I hope he doesn't actually go to Georgia but all indicators say that he is 100% the guy there. Sigh.
