I'm not getting why some are so down on Taggart. Is it simply his overall record? I think he would do great things at UF. He is young, has by far the best Florida connections, makes great staff choices, is a top-notch recruiter and has an exciting offense.
If he had stayed at USF and was undefeated this year, he would have more than likely been the favorite from the start.

But he's not, he's at Oregon and he's getting trounced. Maybe Oregon is that bad, maybe he's not adapting enough to win the games we want. We have a lot of talent at Florida, we don't want another coach who needs talent to be very successful.
UCF had talent, but they also had a 0 - 12 year and are now on their way to an undefeated season.

EVERY Coach needs talent to win. Why you think Saban is recruiting 24/7

I'm saying very successful. I don't mind making a little magic, but outside of ASU he's losing by an average of 27 points a game.
His offense has been held to 14 points or less twice.
I just don't think we should take a risk on a guy across the world who was at USF when we have a really good coach in our backyard with an offense that favors adaptability.

He took over a 4-8 Oregon team, they're 5-4 right now. Taggart has a body of work going into tough situations and winning. IMO, there's a lot to like about him. I'll admit he's a local guy so I have an affinity for him.
Don't have to convince me on Frost, he's my #1. It's just interesting outside of him how large of a divide there is on the other candidates.

I'm saying overall: If we're going to take a chance -- why not with the guy who is already here in Florida in his second year at a smaller school than a guy at a bigger school who is going to cost a lot more?

So let me get this straight you say no to Willie T cause in his first year at the Ducks he isn't winning every game, even with loosing his first and second string qb. Yet you are drooling over Frost who in his first year lost half his first year games. Ducks competition is a little tougher.
I have not decided who I want I see positives and negatives on them all but WOW some of you all have made up your minds and if it isn't your guy they suck.

Not only that he gets recruiting. You need talent to win games. Great coaching + Great talent= NC contender. Bama, Clem, Ohio St all are at the top because they have both. Georgia is joining the party

It's hard to get over Willie's .479 winning percentage in my opinion.

The issues with Oregon on his first week on the job. Player safety stuff. That would never be brought up by opposing coaches.

I believe that's the second time he's done that too.

In January 2017, three Oregon football players were hospitalized after grueling military-style workouts.[8] Multiple sources described the workouts to the Oregonian as "akin to military basic training, with one said to include up to an hour of continuous push-ups and up-downs."[9] Coach Taggert personally visited the ill and hospitalized players to wish them a speedy recovery. "I have visited with the three young men involved in the incidents in the past few days and I have been in constant contact with their families, offering my sincere apologies,” Taggart said in the statement. “As the head football coach, I hold myself responsible for all of our football-related activities and the safety of our students must come first. I have addressed the issue with our strength and conditioning staff, and I fully support the actions taken today by the university. I want to thank our medical staff and doctors for caring for all of our young men, and I want to apologize to the university, our students, alumni and fans.”

taggart put his guys through a pre-bud/s screening test. not even the real thing. all prosspective candidates at the naval academy do it.
that shite isn't for everyone.
have no problem with what taggart did. this isn't high school p.e. class and it's voluntary. guys don't have to play football.

We're both military and we both know -- Military Training, especially in the beginning is meant to stress you, and it should be done at a moderate rate.
Have you ever met a guy from the military that didn't have a fricked up feet, ankles, shins, knees, hips or back?
Getting players to play tough is one thing, hospitalizing your players is just stupid. You can't win ''wars'' with broken soldiers.

i agree with you more or less, but only 3 minor issues out of 85+ kids is pretty good given that they now know what "reaching deep inside" means. athletics really don't cover that in comparison. he also just did it for shock value, lessons, etc. not a day in day out thing.
on taggart as our head coach, i like the guy, but i could see him here after he turns oregon around. never know how long our next coach will be here. i just can't get past taggart's overall record. lot's of coaches have done more impressive turnarounds. taggart will be a winner at oregon.
as far as experience for a head coach, and this isn't directed at you, but this isn't govt work. not a bureaucracy.

I just don't know if putting three kids in the hospital is worth that kind of lesson if there is a viable alternative (and there are many). I OC'd (military OC) for a while and I fricking hate injuries that can be avoided. I understand it's a good way to get them motivated, but you have to work it up to that.

If we're going to hire Taggart we might as well hire Shannon unless he's horrible. I see nothing Taggart offers that Shannon doesn't -- well, at least Taggart really knows offense, but if Shannon offers us a good product tomorrow then I wouldn't chance it.
Frost's offense, though. That I want to give him, and with the players to actually run it.

just talking about about taggart as a coach in the future, not the current opening.
i think the kids were in the hospital as a precautionary measure, not out of necessity.
insurance/medical complex, etc.

No Taggert please. USF is a commuter school. Strong? Lukewarm on him, Kelly no way...hates recruiting, Mullen, no thanks, Norvel...nahhh, Campbell, no way.
My personal choices would be
Frost because he is hireable.
Petrino, Kiffin are tough sales for Stricklin
Shannon is a possibly a darkhorse candidate (no not that kind of dark) I could live with and he comes with a real reasonable price tag. I wonder if Stricklin does a lot of shopping at Wal Mart? He does seem budget minded.
Steve Spurrier? Out of retirement? Stranger things have happened...look at Kan State. Steve would check all the boxes.
