After seeing posts extolling this person or that person. Explaining this scheme or another.

My perception is that the coaching staff has no concept of what they are trying to do. We have digressed from our first game to last nights. The offense is lost, defense has gotten porous. Have injuries and suspensions played a part? Sure.

I’d had hoped that with the games being played our players would gain experience and make better decisions. We seem to be scoring less and giving up more. If it was just the O or the D I wouldn’t feel so bad. But damn the whole team looks lost.

Can someone attempt to explain how we have gotten so… pathetic? I’m not giving up on the team but I would like to see some damn attempt by someone to straighten shite out. A new coach probably won’t make it happen over night.

Anyone feel similar?

Well, I'm gonna say some things that are going to sound outrageous but that I think are pretty true:

1. Yes, injuries and suspensions have played a major part, at least for the offense and somewhat for the defense. We lost every single one of our impact players/captains on both offense and defense. Scarlett, Callaway and Harris before the season even started and Sheritt against Texas A&M.

Sheritt and Harris were pivotal in the run game, and it has shown time and time again. On offense, not only did we lose our captains, we lost their Freshmen backups who were doing very well when they were in the game.

2. Missouri has been getting better every week. They hung with Georgia and actually made an upperclass laden Georgia look pretty mediocre on offense. If they had the defensive personnel to stop Georgia, they would have probably won.

3. Losing:

#1, #3 WR, #1, #2 RB and the best QB for the offensive scheme we run has shown to be hard to overcome.

#1, #2 Safety, Two starting defensive linemen, a starting LB and ultimately:

Our Head Coach a week before going on the road where we really don't do so well?

This was going to happen. We're down so many players (21/22) and it is painfully obvious McElwain had NO plan B. Zaire doesn't even look comfortable with the read option, doesn't know when to keep the ball (that can be fixed, but not in 5 days) and Franks is obviously just not the answer to any offensive scheme where he actually needs to think.

We're in for a longer season.

Suspensions and injuries are very real. Our team has been decimated by them. If we had our entire team, we could quite possibly been undefeated at this point BUT we'll never know. I think ultimately McElwain was responsible for the depleted team. He should have had a better leash on his players, especially Calloway who routinely was screwing up. I don't think he was very good at teaching technique nor were our strength and conditioning up to par, which most likely caused injuries.

Muschamp had a bad injury year as well. Could be dumb luck or could be not properly coaching up the team. Doesn't matter because it is what it is. I hope the next guy that comes in works hard on getting the team bigger and faster. When you look at Bama, they are physically dominating. They have a bunch of grown arse men.

Billy D use to work hard at conditioning and weight training of his BBall team. The before and after pictures of some of our guys were staggering. I think that was one reason he was so successful here. We usually were the better team physically and that goes a long way.

1. Bad coaching
2. Bad recruiting
3. Lack of development
4. No leadership on the field
5. No coach is a leader off the field
6. injuries and suspensions
7. Insanely bad strength and conditioning program...just insanely bad.

I agree with Straws...losing Harris alone was a blow to the defense with so few experienced DBs and although we knew true frosh DBs were going to needed...it was a crucial loss. Marcell Harris was our leading tackler in 2016. Add in Nick Wasington a sr safety and the secondary went to hell in a handbasket. Gardner and Dawson have both played hurt in some games.

Offensively we have been a disaster all year. Del Rio should have started from day one and if he hadn't been injured, we might be looking at a better year. Our OL still doesn't know how to pass block well...run blocking has been much better this year. TEs aren't not elite blockers or receivers. WR corp has been hodge podge. Losing Malik Davis has been hard.

The Mizzou team we saw yesterday was not the same Mizzou team their first four games or so. They made a commitment to drop the air raid offense and run more...and Odoms has gotten the defense to play much better....and the defense was immediately assisted by the more frequent run game.

We do have a lot of returning players...but the new coach will probably his work cut for him. Sorting out the ones who WANT to play hard and the ones who go through the motions. A breath of fresh air is needed (again) and we will have to be patient. Two scenarios are possible 1) the new HC gets in the locker room and sticks his foot up their butts and takes no prisoners and with our returning starters gets us back on track immediately and we see handsome return on the investment or 2) the new coach is too friendly mush mush and we have to wait. I prefer door # 1

I agree with this, too. Every week they look better. They have real heart and determination. They hung with Georgia for a half (compared to our quarter ) and really they just wanted it more -- which is common for the entire season.

To go from almost beating LSU and A&M to getting blown out by Missouri in less than a month is really hard to accept, though. Outright depressing.

I get the injuries and suspensions. Playing a lot of young players.

As an older fan I was around in the lean years when our motto was "wait till next year". I know some of you are too.

It hurts to see the program slip this far. I'm not saying we should be world beaters every year but every other would be nice. .
