We missed a shot at Franklin for waiting, and look at what he is doing now.

We all want Frost. He is a clear golden ticket looking guy. If UF isn't in play, he will end up at Tenn or Nebraska I would bet.

It's better to get Mac out, and go full throttle for Frost. He loves this area, his new kid he can see more often here than Nebraska. It would be a perfect fit.

Keeping Mac, just seems like delaying the inevitable at this point. He just doesn't seem good enough. He has too many flaws as a coach to beat someone like Bama.

I like Frost. I'd take him over Mac right now... BUT I am very afraid of taking another guy without big boy experience. He looks great, he looks fantastic in fact but I am done with the up and comers. Bring us a proven coach that has experience at a big boy school. One that knows the ins and outs of a big program, where you have to schmooze recruits, Bull Gators, the media, etc. One that knows how to keep his players eligible and not suspended every other year. One that knows how to develop a well rounded program because they've been through the school of hard knocks. One that can meet the demands of the fanbase and not get exacerbated after every press conference.

UF is not the place to learn on the job. Frost would have to learn a lot of things in this position. That scares me. We need a SURE THING. Someone that can bring UF back to prominence. Maybe not win a title but consistent top 10. Then maybe 5 or 6 years down the line get an up and comer to take it to the next level. This program needs a home run.

Most guys with experience at big boy experience are at big time programs and wouldn't want to leave. It sounds like you want Chip Kelly , Bob Stoops or Lane Kiffin. The first 2 are not coaching right now and the other is currently at smaller program. Who are you wanting ?

Out of those 3.... I guess, I'd take Lane Kiffin.
Stoops retired for a reason
Kelly while exciting, hates recruiting.
Lane would be the best fit of the 3 as far as recruiting and bringing life to this dormant offense.

Kelly hates recruiting but still plays the game. It also would be easier here than at Oregon. Frost is #1 and I didn't realize Norvell is that young.

Strong, Kiffin, Leach, Dantonio, Kelly, are my top picks. Petrino (yes him), Greg Schiano, Willie Taggert would be up there. I really haven't given a lot of thought but it would have to be a coach that has extensive experience for me, preferably at a big program. Taggert has had 2 HC stint's albeit smaller schools but I count that more than Frost who has only 1. I'd go with Schiano who's been out of a HC job or even, dare I say Jim Tressel, who is no longer under show cause. All these guys have been through hell and back. They are proven and would move the program forward. Can they all win titles? Probably not but we need a positive direction, where we get better as the season gets longer not worse.

I like Frost but the lack of experience is my concern. I'd have to put him top among coaches with huge upside but not enough experience. Him and a host of about 10 other coaches at 2nd tiered teams fits that bill. Frost has a year and a half experience in a questionable conference. Why take that chance? Better to get the teacher in Chip Kelly than the student. At least this time around. We cannot take any chances.

So with the experience being a factor. Id say
1. Chip Kelly
2. Lane Kiffin

I don't think you can go wrong with either. Think about it. Both these guys would have us winning immediately and would bring a buzz to the program as well. There is really NO CHANCE they would fail here. That's what we need. We need a no brainer. Leach and Strong would win here as well.

I'm just done with guys that don't have extensive experience. McElwain has had too many missteps and it's because he hasn't coached through hard knocks for a long time. He still doesn't understand this fan base and the demands for a high powered offense. Muschamp and Zook never really got it either. I can't blame them, that they didn't have the experience.

By big boy school do you mean power 5 team? If so then how about Fuente at VT , Gundy and call Franklin and make him be the first one to say no. Hell no to Greg Schiano . Taggert doesn't seem to be proven anymore then Frost . I would be ok with half of the guys you named.

I would go

Fuente
Kelly
Kiffin

Petrino

Strong
Leach
Taggert (could move up the list more with experience. I would prefer Frost over Taggert.)

That's considering having no chance for Franklin .

They were down a lot of scholarships while he was there. I think they were down something like 24 scholarships .he would have been much better off staying at Tennessee . I don't remember if the NCAA announced the penalties before he took the USC job or not. I think if he stayed at Tennessee they would have owned the east after Meyer left.

He took the job knowing there would be sanctions but he was told that the NCAA would go easy on USC, so he didn't think it would be so severe. Then the hammer came down and he basically couldn't recruit depth. The current players had an option where they could leave and immediately be eligible at other schools. I think he lost like 20 guys before he got started. They still did well his first year. The next year, they were even more depleted and he went 10-2 which is a miracle if you look at it. The very next year the sanctions caught up to him. He was trying to plug holes but it got out of hand (kinda similar to McElwain).

You have to remember that Kiffin had a clause in his UT contract that said he could leave UT if USC came calling. That was his dream job and he took it when it became open. I'm sure if he knew the shoe was about to drop that he would have never left UT. I really don't see us having an issue with him leaving to go somewhere else. What other dream job comes up after UF?

I would send a bunch of money to UAA right now to get Franklin. I just don't see any way possible that that would happen. You have to at least ask but I don't see it. Just like Fuente or Dantonio. I'd prefer Frost over Taggert as well but the lack of experience thing is just too much for me to bare. I'd have to go with Taggert just because but He's another one that I don't see coming here at all.

Franklin's buyout is $6M. He makes 5.37M. Offer $7M and make him say no.

I don’t think Taggart would leave after a year, but that’s a conversation to have next year if need be. He’s a Florida guy and wants to be in state, IMO he would do great things here.

Right now I’m all in on Frost. I’m not concerned with the experience. He knows the state and has been around big programs to understand what the role entails. The guy is going to be a great coach, if I’m AD I don’t want to miss the one opportunity I get to snag him.

3 out of the last 4 coaches here had very little coaching experience and it has been a disaster. Why would you take a chance at UF now with Frost? Can't do it...

He wasn't all that bad at USCw considering probation during his time there and Oregon being elite as well. USC still is down, was just as good when he was there. I think his main issue was the CEO part. I think working under Saban for two years would help that a ton.
