Honestly, I think Reel is right. I don't like it, because I think LDR is kind of suffering the same fate that Driskel did -- super bad luck (this time with injuries), tipped passes, terrible line play and a lack of mental fortitude that he can get at this level.

That being said, McElwain has tried, tirelessly at that, to bring in new blood for a majorly broken offense. Franks, while still a sophomore has never played the game at this speed -- and I'm not sure if Michigan is the place to try it out.

Last thing we want is another QB getting his mental state broken from early bad games, and as much as I don't like it (personally, I would play Franks or whatever QB was going to be taking snaps in the future right off the bat. If he's got what it takes, he'll float) I wouldn't even be a little surprised to see LDR or Zaire start.

How many years is it going to take to have a QB that doesn't suck?

Until we land a legitimate QB and not just a shite ton of transfers. Well, if McElwain can pull a rabbit out of his hat and do really well with a quarterback, then maybe others might want to come play.

A lot of recruits, I feel, are in ''wait and see mode'', which we should be, too.

Fact of the matter: It's time to put his feet to the fire, put in Franks and let the die roll.

Slayer you weren't stating that Del Rio sucked before he got injured and we were undefeated...he didn't do well after his injury...that's a given. Quite frankly our Purdue QB transfer had a cannon for an arm...just as strong as Franks does. Our problem the past several years is easy to pinpoint, it has been the OL that has sucked. It will now be a strength imo and we will be able to run the ball much better.

It seems like a lot of posters don't understand the importance of the run game....3rd and 2 or 3 yds is a whole lot better than 3rd and 8 yds to go. You have to out rush your opponent to win...its a fact. 89% of games won by the team that gains more yds on the ground. The other 11% of the time? You had more turnovers.

In this age of football you have to throw of course to be able to move the chains also. But Ga Tech is a relic of by gone years of wishbone offense. They use a small RB as a QB who usually cant throw worth a lick. But Ga Techs problem has been their defense and when they face a very good defense that puts 9 men close to the line...running game can be stopped.

I love to see the aerial attacks but like winning more. Why do you think teams like Okla State, Texas Tech or Washington State aren't elite? Throwing 50 times is a recipe for Ls in the SEC. Your defense gets worn out with too many 3 and outs. Football 101.
Why is Bama really good? Very elite defense and a potent ground game.

Reel- LDR played 0 teams with a pulse. He was the QB in a 10-7 game in the 4th quarter vs. UMASS. He QB'd a game against North Texas that we could have won only playing defense. Kentucky was crap early in the season and didn't do anything until the end of the year.

Run game is important. Everyone who watches football knows the run game is important.

People will load the box on you though if they don't think your QB can throw. At that point, it becomes a numbers game and it is hard to run against defensive fronts that out number the offense. Even if you are Alabama that becomes an issue.

The run game can only do so much in this specific traditional offense without a QB to make defenses honest.

If LDR is that guy.... great. I just don't see it.

Word is since the arrival of Zeier that Franks has been pretty impressive in practice.

We may have a transfer QB starting for us...certainly possible. You just cant throw a r/s frosh QB out there without snap experience and expect greatness, would be nice but the coaching staff wants to win....now.

Franks imo needs seasoning and should get some playing time when a crucial game isn't on the line. If the coaches feel Franks is the best option...then I'm all for it...but there is security in having experience in the game.

Let's revisit our earlier thoughts and guess as to who the starting QB will be against Michigan next Saturday.
I will support whoever it is and trust the coaches to make that decision. I believe that the starter for game one will be

Luke Del Rio

I fully believe that it will be Del Rio. Every coach I've ever known has gone with experience first. If the first half goes the way I'm expecting, Franks will more than likely start the second half.

Why pull your starter when you are ahead 17-3?

That's what I am expecting.

I read an interesting article this morning talking about how much confidence the coaching staff has in Del Rio's decision making and knowledge of the system. I don't think anyone has separated himself from the pack from what I am hearing, so the coaches will go with experience. If we don't make a lot of mistakes, we should win this game, Del Rio is the safe bet. If it goes South, I look for a short hook. Go Gators.

Reel may be right. Del Rio may be the guy based on the little bit of information that we have at this point.

But is terrible in every other metric. If LDR starts and plays a big chunk UF gets beat by 3 TDs.

Del Rio or any other QB is not going to play a big chunk and have Mac watch lose by 3 TDs.

I kinda foresee a situation where 3 QBs all get in the game and get chances to produce.

Oh I can see Mac doing this. Especially while playing Michigan. These coaches always think experience trumps talent. The game will be over by the time Mac considers it.

I think Zaire will be the starter for the first game . Would be great to see Franks start but Mac doesn't seem to believe in his ability to coach up a QB yet.

Yeah, he relies too much on what someone else has already done seems like. Not sure why he didn't get a grad transfer when he was transitioning here after the 2014 season. Something tells me he'll get another after this season.

Zaire tweet from earlier today

He also liked a tweet with somebody saying something about him not being the starter.
