OP has been fully updated.

Marco Wilson is trending to UF on the CB. I still don't feel great about him. Miami is in a good spot, however, Marco may be in a spot where he needs to make a "reservation" at CB. Especially if another one jumps in soon.

I kept telling you guys that Carter was ours....he has always liked the Gators. We have some defensive help in depth on the way and more to come.

I really like the position we are in this preseason...laying in the bushes and nobody giving us a chance to do much. Im confident we will strike hard and raise eyebrows. UT may finally beat us in Neyland but I would not bet against us. Beat them and we have Vandy, Arkansas & the girls school to deal with on the road.

Our defense will be better than most expect and keep us in games...should attract more defensive recruits for 2018.

Not really a surprise. It looked like Swain, Massey, and Hammond had already passed him up this spring.

Once Powell came back from injury, and Callaway came off suspension, that depth chart couldn't look to favorable.

And that doesn't even count guys like Cleveland who just got there, and Fulwood and Worton who are still fighting for a depth chart spot, or Chris Thompson who had more speed than Bailey and was already a fixture on special teams.

Honestly, the WR depth chart looks so much better than it did a year ago it's just silly.

I hope AU stays the frick away from Toney now that they missed on Mond. Toney would be perfect in Gus' HS run based spread. I hope Toney realizes if he wants to play at the next level, it won't be because he developed as a QB in Malzahns system.

UF loses Kai Leon Herbert to Michigan. 4* OT. UF thought they had him in the bag - michigan with another steal from Florida.

UF getting the shite kicked out of them in the state of Florida right now.

Lots of good OL in Florida right now and this staff is just swinging and missing right now.

Long time until NSD - but damn if it isn't depressing to watch right now.

Yeah missing on Herbert was bad. Gotta get on Summers for that one.

UF still has a chance with Leatherwood.

Calvin Ashley transferred to his 3rd or 4th school and is going to struggle to qualify.

OL isn't a big need for the 17 class though IMO. Most of our OL are currently sophomores and have a bunch of experience from last year.

Secondary and LB help is a HUGE need for 2017 though. Next year could be our weakest secondary since 2007 and we know how that season went on defense...

If anything from the last regime should remind us of anything it is the importance of OL recruiting. UF needs at least two tackle prospects, and you should always take at least one interior guy.

So minimum 3.

I guess we will all just have to live with the idea that none of them will be ready to play for a while though.

Come on guys... OL are hard to recruit when you have THREE true frosh OL last year start games and also played a lot of snaps.Recruits are told by rivals that PT will be hard to come by early on. Most kids dont want to fight on the practice field to win starts and expect for the yellow school bus to drop them off at the stadium and by showing up they are annointed AAs.

Will be hard to sway top OL recruits and if a certain OL who is a Bama committ decides to join us, then hats off to our staff on that feat.

I know one thing...too many ex rival high school coaches in Fla swaying talent away from us. We need more Gator high school coaches. We used to own the panhandle years ago but AU, Bama, girls school have feasted lately. AU is a lot closer to the panhandle and a lot of alums live in the area. We had to fight AU for Emmitt.

Some things have happened the last few days....

3* LB James Houston from American Heritage committed to Florida.

4* RB Adarius Lemons from Clearwater committed to Florida.

4* CB Shawn Davis from Miami is announcing in August, most likely to Florida.

4* CB Marco Wilson from American Heritage should be committing in August as well, many speculate to Florida too.

Yeah And the other site posted that our average committs on whole are higher rated overall per committ than a few top ten rated schools recruiting wise.

We have low numbers of committs and will end up with smaller class numbers wise...but a lot of top kids wanna see how teams do during the upcoming season...if the Univ of NJ @ Coral Gables or the dawgs falter...could see a couple good ones look our way ( I always assume we will be very good of course ). One thing in our favor in Fla recruiting is that we can sell SEC over ACC and that should be a huge asset. Whats the value of an ACC championship ring vs SEC ring? Not even close.

UF had a good weekend.

But the fact remains - they are short at offensive tackle, and need two good players this cycle at this position, and as of now they have 0 and the prospects look poor for getting anything other than a project.

They need a ton of bodies in the secondary that can play right away - but that looks way more positive than the offensive tackle situation.

As of right now, assuming David Sharpe goes pro which is likely, here is your depth chart at OT for the Michigan game:

RT: Martez Ivey - who has yet to ever actually play tackle at the college level
LT: Fred Johnson - a guy that was so-so as a freshman last year

Back ups
RT: Stone Forsythe - assuming he red shirts this year
LT: Kavaris Harkless - has barely played

UF needs help at that position in a big way. Maybe even more than they do at DB. Although it's close.

UF had a good weekend - no doubt, but that doesn't mean there aren't issues.

Sharpe hasn't shown anything to make anyone believe he is going to the draft. No OT's in this class are starting year 1 either, and if they were, it'd be a shitty situation.

I agree, we need OL in a bad way. Hopefully a transfer for some depth would be amazing.

Agree on the Sharpe having shown nothing. Neither did Humphries really. He went early based on potential. Sharpe could be the same thing if he has even a remotely decent year. It would be huge if he was healthy and stayed through his senior year for this team. UF has some OK prospects, and maybe they will develop over time.

Wow horsey...I like OT Johnson a LOT....he is huge and was only a freaking true frosh last year....no true frosh OL do anything in the tough SEC including Ivey and Jordan. Its a tough position and the only two true frosh I ever saw play decent was Odom and Green ...pressed into service in 1992 after we lost a lot of talent and hadnt gotten a good start in recruiting by Spurrier's staff and I say "staff" because thats who did the recruiting when Spurrier was out on the links. And Odom and Green took their early beatdowns...we lost early to UT & Moo State and they ripped us a new one.

People make fun of Zook but it was HIS recruiting and energy level as an asst coach that helped make champions.

I am one of the biggest believers in recruiting OL and I feel its necessary to win....I was screaming on another site for several years predicting the inevitable lack of depth we were going to encounter just as Muschamp took over....Urban started it with his 2 OL signed and it continued...he had only one good year recruiting OL. I can kind of understand what Muschamp was doing, he was a DC coach and had to shore up the defense and he did in one year...2012....what a difference from 2011....but the offense suffered ...but again if you have only two choices, a stout hard nose defense or a potent offense...its a no brainer....defense wins every time.

Fast forward and Im more concerned about the defense than offense. The offense only needs to not have our defense on the field too long. Muschamps defense is leaving us and we need to keep pace. We held Fournette in check last year until midway 3rd qt when our defense wore out...then his talent took over. Look at the girls school and even the Bama game and our defense kept us in those games through the half...but our offense couldnt sustain anything and the roof fell in.

Our offense will be fine this year and again...its hard to recruit top OL when you have had THREE true frosh start & play games. Sharp will be fine...he is only a freaking junior this year and some dont realize the time it takes for a lot of OL to develop into a top tier player. Patience brothers.
