3* Kadarius Toney ATH is a gator. He's a QB in HS but is be recruited as ATH. With a 4.7 I don't see him playing any other position. I don't get this take at all given our class size

I don't get it either. I heard that we are still getting beat on the recruiting trail for a lot of our targets.

I don't know why people don't get it. It's been 2 full recruiting cycles now. This staff is an average recruiting staff.

Player development will be the factor that determines how far this staff can go. Organizationally, they are great, and on game day, they seem solid.

UF has 3 really good recruiters, Rumph, Dixon, and Gray. The rest are just "OK". Skipper is solid as well.

This staff is going to excel based on development. They have their stuff together for the most part, so I'm not as big on recruiting as I was with WM. They needed to recruit lights out. With Urban, you catch lightning in a bottle because his staffs could recruIt and develop.

Imo you need both great recruiters and coaches. That's how Bama/OSU so good. Likewise look at lsu who has great talent and an above average coach. You may get a top 15 class and end up being the 10th in the SEC and chasing FSU. The lack of defensive studs in Macs last class was a shock given how good the defense was. The defense Blue chip %(4/5*) dropped from 70% under champ to 25% under Mac in his first two defensive classes. LINK

McElwain has 1 class.

Also, name the skill guys WM recruited outside of Taylor/DROB that did anything. WM only recruited defense, so your statime doesn't surprise me.

We have no clue if these guys will be good. Mac has improved the offense on paper. Powell, Goolsby, Lewis, Matt Jones, Max Garcia, DJ Humphries were WM recruits. Mac can coach better on offense. WM had trouble letting the offense do it's job. His recruiting on defense is what saved Mac from having a losing season. We'll be in the exact situation if the defense recruiting doesn't improve. Meyer and SOS had balance in recruiters and coaches. As for his class none of the OL, LB, S, or CB save Gardner will be ready to play for at least a year if not more. Thompson looks too slow to anything other than a 3rd down back. Franks is a project and Trask maybe a stud. Filling a team with 3*s while everyone around you is getting 4/5*s doesn't help. We hear zero news except on 3*s. We're getting the leftovees. You can't coach talent. Look at the drafts. We can't win the CFP recruiting like Arkansas or Texas Tech on defense and hope to coach them all up.

You do know that Kadarius Toney is a four star ESPN300 guy and one of the top athletes in the country, right?

Look at the tape, the kid is explosive

Normally, I would say there would be a few more coming but the current roster does not have a ton of proven dead weight on scholarship.

To me, this is exactly the type of guy that UF wants. Explosive players that are dangerous with the ball in there hands. Not POS tap dancing divas.

Give this kid a shot at QB. If that does not work out, switch to WR.

Espn is terrible at recruiting rankings.I've watched his tape. He has trouble beating people to the edge. What film are you guys watching? His competition looks average at best. He's not fast enough . to be a WR/DB in the SEC.
He's a lesser Treon Harris and his 40 has been verified at 4.69 by ESPN, and Scout.

Here is his film from 2014:
Here are the times he runs:

Holy Cow....40 times, stars...who gives a crap? I can see what little I just watched on his tape that this kid has that one element you cant coach...heart. Ever time Wuerffel or Grossman? Maybe with a sundial. Toney has an arm and isnt too inaccurate either.

This kid is another QB on the roster and it shows McElwain aint fooling around...no matter what happens the next few years QBs are going to have competition and lots of it. Some will change positions or transfer...oh well.

I too am concerned about def recruiting but its too early right now to judge anybody or be critical of any coaches.
Lets see how we do in Feb.

Bama just offered Toney. Oh well....they dont know what they're doing.

Ever hear of "change of pace QBs" TJ? Probably not.

Ive been chilling for the past 3 weeks and I guess my sharp edge demeanor gets a razor blade look to it after a while. If anyone wants to be critical of coaches I will be ready to defend them and it gets tiresome hearing about our lack of recruiting prowness in freaking May. I will worry about recruiting more in January...but damn, cant we just enjoy ourselves and look forward to September? Or do we HAVE to be unhappy? Have a drink and relax.

Seems I recall UT and Ole Miss just beating the crap out of the SEC in recruiting...how'd that work out? We took Ole Miss behind the fricking woodshed...so much for stars.

He's not gonna be a quarterback, but to say he's not a good take at this point when he's a highly touted 4 star guy on ESPN and Scout and considered one of the top 300 players in the country is a joke.

Callaway doesn't run a 4.4. DRob didn't run a 4.4. I don't see what the problem is with taking a guy who is explosive with the ball in his hands

That's great until you start looking at the average star ranking of every National Championship team since stars were invented with regard to recruiting.

It doesn't look good for us unless you think 9-3 is just fine.

I am officially re naming you "back road Gator". J/K (sort of) I dont have the time right now to look at stars or crap like that. I will tell you the MOST important stat in college football: its rushing offense and rushing defense...period, exclamation point. Unless you are a crazy HC out in the NW who has a real weak team and masks it by throwing the ball 55 times a game...,makes fans real happy when they are giving up 60+ points a game.

This is why Im optimistic this year....we will finish higher than 13th in the SEC in rushing and maybe a lot higher. Its a miracle what McElwain did with that stat. I will give credit to our defense that held time and again after the Ole Miss game when we werent too good on offense.

OL check
QB check
RB doublecheck
WR check

Hard to recruit OL when you have three true frosh start or play a lot the year before btw. Sporting News doesnt even have preseason ranked....thats locker room fodder.
