Why do we even try to run the ball?

It's like we're running into a brick wall every time. Our O-line has improved tremondously in pass pro, but run blocking has fell off the map. We have a good QB, a good set of WRs, and three good RB's that can catch the ball well out of the backfield. Every sustained drive last night that we had involved pass after pass after pass. Each time we tried a perimeter play or a shoutgun ISO or inside zone we killed all the momentum of the drive.
Does anyone else see it the way I do, in that in order for this offense to be successful, we might as well try our hand at the air raid type offense, throwing 40-50 times a game? Shovels, quick routes over the middle, wheels and dump offs to the backs?
Or is it just me?

We have to run the football. If we don't then we're done.
I, personally, do not believe we are not incapable of running the ball. I believe it's more to do with bad play calling, last night, and not keeping their defense off balance with at least a threat to run the ball.
Those little short routes you're talking about die inside the ten when the field tightens. That was Kentucky's game plan last night, bend but don't break between the 20s. Keep everything in front of them with a four man or sometimes overloaded rush ... and it worked. Gotta give Kentucky credit. They had our number once we got behind. We're not a grind it out football team but we absolutely must have a threat to run the ball.
Down there on the 18" line you don't line up in the shotgun and then run off tackle with your smallest back. You run a two back backfield under center with a lead blocker like Crosby or Hurst and you go right at'em, or over the top or something.
It just baffles the mind, the play calling last night.

Haven't kept up with it recently. Who are your RBs this season. You guys usually have a stud or two back there.

No push up front, missed blocks, and poor foot work on the Oline has killed any chance of a run game. It only takes one guy to mess up to ruin a play. I do not believe it's the RB's fault. Williams, Dowdle, and Turner are all working extremely hard to find running lanes that just aren't there for them.

Rooster, I completely agree that running the ball is necessary. I'd love to see us have a great ground game and run play action off of it. I'm not a big fan of the under center sets we've ran this year, they're almost too obvious we're trying to run or it's play action.
Back in school, middle school I played in a triple option offense, and then once high school came, our new coach came (Brian lane, woodruff) and we switched to the spread to throw so I moved to RB. I love seeing a dominant ground game, with a DT QB as well, but at the same time, with the personnel we have, and our line, it's almost like running into a brick wall.

Feel like our run play calls are very vanilla. It's always up the middle, no imagination to them. We hardly ever run off tackle, zone reads, use misdirection or sweeps. We'll sprinkle them in like 1 play a game but for the most part it's just up the middle.
Also most of the time we run it's a predictable situation imo.

Every single time I see us line up in the shotgun on a 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 I want to shoot myself in the stands. We've been doing this shite since Spurrier was here and you'd think at some point it would dawn on our coaches that's not the best strategy. That play call on 4th and goal from the 1 should have gotten someone fired on the spot.
