Any word on the DL coach? I have seen both Lawing and Tracy Rocker being mentioned? Also, what capacity, if any, would we hire Ellis Johnson for?

Man ... there are so many rumors flying around about both the DLine coach and LB coach. Who knows. Would love to see Brad back on the DLine, not so much with EJ. He burned his bridges with us IMHO. EJ is being talked about as the LB coach but it would be a mistake IMHO. He is not loyal to us in any shape, form or fashion. He's mercenary and not very good at it IMHO. He does not work well with others ... and he is a fricking prick to be honest with everyone IMHO.

Rocker might be a really great hire is we can get him. If not, there are others we're courting.

Muschamp was not my first choice, as I was hoping for either Herman or Smart, but I certainly don't think Muschamp will be nearly the disaster many are saying. I was actually really disappointed we didn't get him as DC and just go ahead and make him HCIW last year. I thought that was the best solution to combat the "2 or 3 years" comment that sabotaged our recruiting last year.

He's our coach now, and I'm excited for a new era. Hopefully, the fans will get behind Muschamp and give him a chance. If you really look at his Florida days, it all comes down to the fact they never found a quarterback. It's really that simple. Look at Florida this year. When they had Grier at qb they were really good, soon as he got suspended, they turned right back into Florida of the last 5 years. Worst case Muschamp will bust his arse on the recruiting trail and bring in some quality players.

I'm just happy to know that we have a coach with a lot of passion and energy, a coach that will put in the long hours, and a coach that will have an actual recruiting game plan. If he does that, and surrounds himself with good coaches, he will be a very good hire.

What will we be paying Travaris Robinson? I'm guessing around $1 mil.

Less than $1M. The $1M+ guys are the long running best DC's in college football. TRob is coming, but he's going to run Muschamp's defense, Champ will call the shots, HOWEVER TRob is going to be learning on the job from Muschamp. He may be a $1M as time goes by, but we'll probably bring him in for $500-$750K.

3. Now Rich Rod, Ray's third choice, jumped the gun and said he was staying in the desert when no offer had been made. This is confusing.

RichRod was NEVER the 3rd choice, he just got an interview as a nod to Sexton. He was never offered the job.

We wanted Herman, then Smart, but we got Muschamp, that is accurate.

This is accurate. Lawing is a awesome recruiter, and an even better scout and developer of talent. Rocker is solid recruiter as well. Those guys are in our top2 for DL coach. IMO, if Lawing wants it, he'll be #1, IMO.

Ellis is dependent on what Lance Thompson says, I believe, If Lance wants it, Ellis is out, if Lance doesn't, Ellis will be considered, IMO.

Herman didn't want any part of the SEC, IMO. He has an easy gig at Houston, and wants the Texas job when they dump Charlie Strong. Why risk a job in the SEC? It's a meat grinder, difficult to compete for recruits, no gimmes on the schedule except for OOC, and even then there's pressure to schedule good teams to build the resume. It's the toughest conference there is, and if he took a job and didn't do extremely well, the shine would be off him as a candidate for his dream job.

I get it. He's pragmatic.

Muschamp obviously wasn't your first or second choice, but hopefully he's learned some lessons and won't repeat his mistakes. He's a really good defensive coach. Best of luck to you. Our games in the next few years may not see more than 17 points scored total.

Decent piece. Not as detailed, but decent and definitely spot-on about the PR blunders.

Is it a done deal with Roper, or can we go with some other options? I looked at some of his past offenses and I wasn't very impressed.

Then that's disheartening. I know McIlwain likes him a lot. He also made Eli a great QB, and Thad Lewis. However, he has more bad years than good years and then a lot of meh years. He did really well the beginning of his year at UF, but then they got hit with a pandemic of injuries and were playing walk-ons at OL.

Isn't there anyone in the Mike Leach coaching tree we could go after? I know OU will match whatever offer we give Lincoln Riley. What about Elf at Texas Tech? Can we also not get Major Applewhite? I just think that we need to look at some other options first.

Applewhite allegedly wasn't interested.

And I'm not sure why you'd want someone from the Mike Leach coaching tree. Nothing screams disaster louder than air raid in the SEC imo

Lincoln Riley is from that tree, he had over 3500 yds passing and 3000 yards rushing this season. If we could get that kind of balance and volume, and a traditional Boom defense, we'd have a shot at the playoffs.

Certainly not knocking the guy as he's clearly a good OC, but he's putting those numbers up in the Big12 where Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma St., Texas Tech, etc. are putting up video game numbers regularly. Might just say something about the league. I am very interested to see how he does against Clemson. Hopefully, he will win me over and put up about 50 on Clemson.

Hes also in the Big 12ish.... Where Mike Leach was able to develop the air raid.

I mean the best defense in that conference is Texas? And they were able to beat both Oklahoma and Baylor.

No thanks I'll pass on that type of offense

Shawn Elliott will be retained, per 247. As long as he doesn't get the ECU job, or some other HC job down the road. That's big news, that may get 4* OL John Simpson back in play for us. It will certainly help with the transition as there will be a guy on the staff that the current players are familiar with and can rally with right now while the other coaches are incoming.

Side note: Elliott is the only current coach expected to be retained, per 247. I was hoping GA Mangus would be retained, but it doesn't look likely. Roper has an excellent relationships with McIlwain and his mom is saying as much on social media.

Don't know how I feel about Elliott. I'm happy for him that he gets to stay home, but I feel like his OLs have been meh.

His OLs were pretty good when we had an SEC-level S&C program. We haven't had one since Fitz left.

Elliott is highly respected by coaches in-state. I think it's important to have him on this staff- unless of course he gets that ECU job.

As for Roper, I'm very leery. I liked Mangus in that role, but understand why the need for change. As stated, Roper never had QB talent in his one year at UF- I'm a better quarterback than Treon Harris. Nunez, Mitch, and hopefully McIlwain are all steps up.

So far, I like what mUSChamp has done with his staff. I hope he understands the importance of locking down the state.
