Herman is off the table but he has not said it or agreed, signed contract.
If it is Herman, I can't see Tanner interviewing people just to create a smoke screen.
All people rumored now are coordinators, are they being discussed for HC or coordinator.

I am just speculating: The PK leak about the Herman to SC contract in principle spooked Herman's team, they then lost to uconn. Herman was pissed, Tanner tells him he'll make this right. So he starts interviewing a bunch of other candidates and Herman says he's not leaving Houston, but won't talk about it or sign contracts. All the guys we're interviewing for are potential HC candidates regardless.

f Boom, why not announce/leak now.
We can't or we'll have to pay the buyout. We have to wait until after Dec 6th. Smart's buyout is different (only $75K) Muschamp would owe Auburn $1M if he leaves before the end of the Reg Season.

ETA: I was wrong. Muschamp could have been announced this week. His Buyout stipulates that the SECCG clause only applies if they make it. He could have been announced this week if we had already interviewed him.

Muschamp only owes Auburn a buyout of $1 million if he leaves before the end of the regular season or the SEC Championship game on Dec. 5 if Auburn advances to Atlanta this season. After that, Muschamp is free to pursue other employment opportunities at no cost to him.

agreed

Since RT has been doing interviews it has given the media something else to latch onto, so the only people that still think Herman may be a possibility is usc fans.Herman is free to prep for conference championship game without interference, and Ray keeps the media busy for him.

That's my take anyway

I agree. Again though that's only if the Herman stuff is a smokescreen. We could still very well find out next week that Herman wants to stay at Houston.

Plus jobs like these, you are recruiting as much as you are interviewing. Selling the job knowing you have already filled it is lead you on.

Ray Tanner and Tom Herman will never come out and say that they had this planned the whole time. IF Herman ends up being the guy, then they'll say that late stage negotiations were successful and that this was the result. Tanner will be able to say that he offered Kirby the job (maybe it was a low ball offer and he knew that georgia job was open and Kirby would take it, so it was a calculated risk.) Remember, Kirby didn't get an offer until AFTER the uga job came open. If he would have got it the week before Thanksgiving (before the uga job was open,) when we already knew Herman had 'pulled his name.' then that would change things, IMO.

Also, wanted to clarify with everyone that in no way am I guaranteeing Herman to SC. I just have noticed a lot of things about this HC recruitment that are interesting or don't add up. There's enough there that I'm skeptical that he's really off the table.

I think we will get either Herman or Muschamp.

Riley interviews today, but his lack of HC experience, lack of high level recruiting success, lack of staff building experience, will take him out of the equation.

Elliott has no shot at this job, had he won 3-4 more games, I would've considered him.

Fedora was NEVER a really serious candidate, neither was Beamer or Biacchia

Muschamp checks the most boxes for the criteria and he's formally interviewing tomorrow. I believe we flew him in this week already and had preliminary talks. There's a lot of smoke here, this could really come to fruition.

Herman....there's just a lot of reasons to be skeptical here one way or the other, but I just don't think you could completely eliminate him from the equation.

Either way, we'll know this weekend or early next week.

I think losing their starting qb had more to do with it.

I assume you're referring to the "Mangus to Penn State" rumor I mentioned.

No, I was responding to your over-the-top freak out about a baseless Internet rumor/troll of Jeff Scott being contacted by Will Muschamp, who has not even been interviewed or hired as our HC.

I appreciate all of the work/reporting in this thread. This is where I come to get the latest news.

It had an impact, sure. However, they also lost Ward when they were playing a MUCH better Memphis team as well, and their back up QB came in and won the game.

We're all exhausted and tired of the speculation. Certainly Tanner is, too.

The Herman hope is predicated on two things: the belief that this is a primo job, and the belief that Ray Tanner is a near-genius level AD.

It's far more realistic to say that Tanner swung, and hard, at two Kershaw fastballs. He came up empty twice. He is likely trying to figure out who, between Riley and Champ, is the absolute best bet to lead the program. He's getting that buttoned up, but still will likely take one last crack at Herman. When that doesn't work, we'll have Champ leaked Sunday night and confirmed on Monday.

Don't do that, there's about 12 of us that post on here, we can't afford to lose any posts let alone posters.

I've been here more than any other site just to read rooster's posts. Well, that's what started it. Now, I hang on every post even though I have thought more than once I needed to let it go and wait for the official announcement.

hey, if nothing else, this stuff gets me through a boring work day, right?

I've been a lurker here for a while, but rarely (rather obvious) do I ever post anything. I used to have a good inside source with a high school buddy who reports straight to RT, but very rarely do we talk anymore. Since I can't contribute 'insightful' information, I usually stand in the corner and kick dust around while waiting on the cool kids to start the fun.

Anyhow, I do agree Herman may still be in play just from everything I've been reading from all over. If he is indeed the man for the job, this has been the greatest ruse since David Copperfield hiding airplanes.

But, I believe we're going to end up with Coach Hulk or Riley, either one (after much thought) I'll be happy with. I believe either one will make for an outstanding hire and will get us on the right track sooner than we think. There may be more bumps in the road with Riley, but the guy will be a stud coach within the next decade.

Herman is definitely in play somewhere, he's being too dodgy and reflective to not be. It could be Texas or USC or Mizzou or hell, it could be Texas A&M.

nope, he was in the Fedora/Beamer/Biacchia thing, just trying to get his name attached to our search.

Dykes is more of a Mizzou candidate than a SCAR candidate. If Odom doesn't end-up at Mizzou it might be Dykes.

We, SCAR, SC, USC ... we're down to Muschamp and Riley.

It appears it's split about evenly down the middle with fans ... but the powers that be are leaning towards Muschamp from what I can tell. Matter of act it almost feels like the interview is nothing more than a formality although Riley is evidently a helluvan interview and impressive to speak with.

I'm pulling for Riley myself, at this stage. Figuring in the whole definition of insanity thing with Muschamp, while trying to remember that he may have learned from previous mistakes. I seriously seriously doubt he reached-out to Jeff piece of shite Scott and no one has been able to confirm that. IMHO it would be a deal-breaker if he did.

I just believe Riley is the logical choice in terms of a young, energetic hire but Muschamp, who knows. Either way we just need to get it done and get the recruiting ball rolling in a hurry.

I am for Riley if he will come now. Spend some big bucks for DC. I believe that will make me some what happy.

I prefer an offensive type HC although I can't remember the last time we had a defensive type.

The otherway, I guess I will have to get over Mushchamp dumping us last year. He would be HC now if he came. The unknowns of offense will make me nervous.

Rich rod......fml

What would make someone thing he would be successful at USC if he failed to produce real results at Michigan and Arizona.

I will buy in if he can build an excellent staff that can recruit sc as well as the rest of the southeast.
