Just took a look at Auburn's flight tracker from today.

DEPARTURES (MORE)

N560MR C560 Roanoke Rgnl (KROA) 07:36p CST
09:43p EST

08:20p CST

Somebody from Auburn was definitely in Cola today.

Yeah, it was Champ.

We're talking to Riley tomorrow (OC from Oklahoma)

We should know what we're going to do as far as HC in the next 48 hours.

ETA: if for some reason we haven't announced anything by Friday, I'm seriously going to consider that Tanner/Herman put on one of the greatest smokescreens of all time...and wait to see what's announced Sun/Mon.

Heard he was here but honestly didn't believe it till I saw this.

I was told that Tanner had planned on naming Elliott bc of the search failure until Pruitt expressed interest and Muschamp came to town.

No idea how true that is but I honestly wouldn't doubt it with the way this has all played out.

I know Mangus is still on staff bc he visited with McIlwain in PN today.

I cannot even explain how unbelievably hard I would laugh at *certain* fanbases (Hey Quintana!! Hey UGA fans who started the "let's all point and laugh at Mizz and SCAR" thread!!) if this actually happened.

ETA: Don't know if you've seen this particular tweet or not but it's interesting:

Tom Herman on CBS Sports radio still won't 100% commit he'd be with UH in 2016.

There are 3 angles here.

1. He's keeping leverage in the negotiating with Houston to get what he wants. Jimmy Sexton is telling him to say that. (pretty damn likely.)

2. He's holding out to see what all the offers will be. Jimmy Sexton told him to do and say this as well. (pretty damn likely as well.)

3. Tanner/Herman just smoke screened everybody on a Master Level. Tanner even gave Kirby a low ball offer, he knew would get rejected, and he timed it knowing that the uga job that was going to come open knowing that Kirby would go there. (much less likely, to many variables and smoke coming from other directions)

HC - Herman

OC - Riley

DC - Pruitt

I can dream, right?

Sooner fans are all over twitter crying and whining about us interviewing him. They seem pretty convinced that he'll jump at SC if offered...and they do not want to lose him.

That the fan base wants to keep him so badly is reassuring to me.

If we legit offer him a HC contract, it would be hard for him to turn that down.

This is the first I've read about Riley. I really like him. I feel like we have to take a chance on a young coach. Would you rather have Muschamp or Riley? It's a tough one for me.

No comment on who it was...y'all know how that is. I name that person and it's seen here by the wrong person (mainly the vultures from some of these blog sites that have been scouring message boards to write articles)...they lose their job.

That's exactly what I was told by him, though. I didn't believe it bc he told me that was the case until the Riley/Muschamp possibilities...and I didn't believe that Boom had been in town yesterday evening. Turns out he was. And we are interviewing Riley. No reason to believe that he wasn't also telling the truth about Elliott as well, ya know?

ETA: See my next post after this one. Guy must have been turning speculation into "fact"...I bought it bc of the other two points that turned out to be true. My bad for sure.

247 just put out this tidbit

According to , interim head coach Shawn Elliott will formally interview for the full-time head coaching position at South Carolina later today. Elliott and athletics director Ray Tanner have met multiple times informally over the course of Elliott tenure as interim coach as well.
While he is considered a long shot to be named the permanent coach, today's interview will be his opportunity to lay out his plan to Tanner, including the staff members he can hire, his recruiting plan and how he would build the program going forward if given the opportunity.
Elliott has also been approached to gauge his interest in other head coaching jobs.

Yep...I just saw that and was about to add an ETA to my post to say that obviously the fellow I was referring to did NOT know what the hell he was talking about. SMDH.

And a definite to Tanner. I realize that talking with Elliott was a formality..but I'm worried that Tanner is going to feel like he has no other option at this point but to hire Elliott.

His "legacy hire" should turn into a fricking "legacy FIRE" bc he has screwed this thing to hell and back about 50 times so far.

Riley ... all the way. And if JesusQueertana is reading this, you can quote me Jesus. Lincoln Riley would be a homerun hire.

I listened to that entire interview and posted about it a page or two back in this thread.

That tweet just goes to show how misleading the press can be with tweets.

Herman is not leaving Houston, he made it pretty damn clear. Here's my post for anyone interested: LINK

I gotta say too. I've got a contact down in Charleston, I am going to have to start listening to him more intently from here on out. Big booster, I've known him for thirty years. We talk weekly, usually just about Xs and Os and various inside stuff we hear here and there. He told me last week it was going to be Lincoln Riley and I sloughed it off. He seemed pretty confident and said he got it from a good source, at the time, that had told him we have been talking to Riley for over a month. It didn't make sense to me given all the other candidates on the table at the time ... but damn, if it ends-up happening it would be huge.

I was supposed to be in Honolulu right now, the wife went without me after the game Saturday because I didn't feel like making the flight - too hungover. If we get Riley I am going to be glad I stayed home. I wanna be there for that welcoming press conference. Riley would be a huge, huge hire. A major coup.

Sooner fans are reporting that OU is scrambling to offer Riley more $$ in an effort to keep him there.

Some went so far as to say "there's no way you will get him with the $$ we're about to throw at him." (none of them would name an actual #, though)

I laughed and replied "SEC $$ baby"....then they began whining (again) about how they didn't want to lose him, yada, yada, yada.

ETA: one of the comments about Riley not taking our HC job bc of OU $$:

quote:

well OU is about to break off some $$ for Riley so pretty sure he won't take it.

followed by this one after I mentioned SEC $$:

quote:

nooooo !!!!!

And then there's this one telling us to leave Riley alone:

quote:

shoo go away!

I don't think two more polar opposite style of coaches could exist.

You've got freakishly enraged Muschamp whose propensity for cussing actually challenges mine.

Then you've got Dabo 2.0 Elliott who likes to make things "fun" and cheers the team on in a fashion very, very similar to that tater coach.

Had to wait for Smart to turn down the offer? Dunno.

No one expected UGA to go into panic mode and fire Richt because we were closing in on Smart. Only person who called that was Heath Cline, who said Richt was going to be fired after the GT game.
