I posted this on tRecruiting board but I'll post it here, too:

quote:

Update:

quote:
Well, it didn't take long for Muschamp to get wind of a budding crisis and nip it in the bud. Later Monday night Hilinski got a text from Muschamp asking him to give him a call.

"He just reaffirmed what I was going through and not to worry because that's just what they are going to do in our class," Hilinski said. "I'm his guy is what he said. He wants to build the program with me. I talked to him and had a great conversation with him. My dad talked to Coach (Bryan) McClendon as well so everything was settled. Nothing to worry about anymore. I was just a little confused at the time is all. They are definitely going to let me know in the future what they decide (about offering QBs). I'll definitely be the first to know. I'm not worried about that at all."

Hilinski is still receiving offers despite his commit to the Gamecocks in early April. LSU, Ohio State and UCLA are three of his most recent offers. He said he has kept Muschamp in the loop on those offers and he doesn't expect anything to materialize from them.

quote:
"They are great schools and I think it just solidifies that all my hard work is paying off," he said. "I told them it doesn't really affect my commitment to them at all and they shouldn't be worried. They are the first people I call once I get those offers and then I tell Twitter. They know before I push it out on Twitter and they're not surprised."

And thus far, Hilinski said, the other schools recruiting against the Gamecocks for his services are taking the high road.

"They have great things to say about South Carolina and Coach Muschamp and I respect them for that of course. But they are trying to get me to visit and see what's it's like for myself there. I don't know if I'm going to take anymore visits. I probably won't but it's always safe to have something in your back pocket in case something happens. But, after talking to Coach Muschamp, I feel confident that I have South Carolina in my front pocket and I don't need to worry about anything in my back pocket."

the word was that with Hillinski being courted by some of the big boys now, the staff started looking at insurance policy players just in case. Apparently Muschamp has now talked to the guy and everythings all good.

Yeah, it's settled and all is fine now, apparently. Hilinski tweeted for us not to worry last night after he talked to Muschamp.

ETA: This is regarding what Rooster said about Joyner:

quote:

If we're truly planning on moving Joyner to WR, and I think that may be the plan after this coming season ... then we habe to recruit two QBs in this next class. We have no choice.

I kinda feel bad for Joyner. He seems to be kind of hurt that this looks like it's going to happen. I wonder if he stays or transfers bc of it. I'd hate to lose him bc he seems like a really good athlete and person in general. I hate this part of the process sometimes.

I still think we need to take a second QB in this class. Dak is too big of a project, maybe he'll pan out one day and prove a lot of people wrong. It's still early on him though. Urich may possibly develop as well, but he too is a big project.

If Bentley has an explosive season, and he very well may, he could opt to leave for the NFL. The draft this next season will be QB weak and he'd have a big opp to be a high pick. If that were to happen, we'll be hurting for QB depth next season..

On a more positive note, our JUCO DT commit Jahkeem Green has recently gotten offers from UGA and Bama.

5* ATH Jaylen McCollough (c/o '19) named his top 4 teams today. They are (in no order):

1. South Carolina
2. Alabama
3. Auburn
4. Tennessee

He named his top 7 back in January but has removed Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State from the list.

No word on when he will announce his decision.

Fingers crossed on this one. Staff says they want all the highly rated athletes and TEs (who they say they can use anywhere) going forward. I doubt that means a class full of either but it probably does mean they'll take as many 4 and 5 star athletes and TEs as they can get their hands on.

That's huge!

Offer list always has been and always will be more important than stars ... and they don't always go hand-in-hand. I'm fairly concinvy that certain coaches who have worked with and/or know Boom very well know to offer kids he offers because he has a good eye ... almost uncanny.

So, what I knew about it almost as soon as Hilinski tweeted about it was that we lost one of our receuiting support staff to another school and she/he was supposed to have texted an alert to Hilinski ... wire got crossed somewhere along the way.

As it was explained to me is that we have support staff, each coach has someone assigned to them, who can text on a coach's behalf via their laptop under the direction of said position coach. Basically relaying a message if told to do so. A coach walks through and/or leaves instructions to touch base with so-and-so recruit on his behalf ... if they are going to be in meetings and/or traveling or whatever because these coaches are really pushed for time. The Verizon app allows the text to come directly from the coach and then it syncs with the coach's phone when he lands or turns his phone back on or takes it off of Airplane mode or whatever.

I cant remember what school she/he left-for but I seem to remember it was one of the Virginia or West Virginia schools and it was not a lateral move, it was a promotion with a substantial pay raise.

Have not gotten the latest on who the replacement is or if it comes from within but the gap has been covered for that particular coach and the next time Werner goes on the road he's going to take care of all his updates himself before he leaves. This one wasn't on Werner of mUSChamp either one ... they both thought it had been covered long before it became a problem.

I'm pretty sure most fans have no idea just how swamped and busy these coaches are during this time of the year. They are all working 60+ hours a week and on the road when not working. Even their support staff is being pushed to its limits right now ... a lot of stress and pressure being applied. mUSChamp is a slave driver with his assistants and staff. I feel sorry for them at times. They catch a lot of heat and Boom can be a brutal task master. I wouldn't want to work for the guy quite honestly ... couldn't work for him. You gotta have extremely thick skin and be immune to someone yelling in your face for the slightest mistake and, as I understand it, mUSChamp went nuts over this Hilinski miscommunication until they figured-out what actually happened.

Former 5* DT from Lewisville Josh Belk has ajed for a transfer from Clemson anf wants to come to SC now....Clemson is willing to release him and South Carolina is willing to take him if he everything checks out from a compliance standpoint...would not arrive until August and would count against the 2019 class. He would have to sit out the 2018 season and would conceivably be eligible to play in 2019.

Isn't this the kid whose 5* rating was highly questionable? The timing seems very odd, and he must not be very good if Clemson is just going to let him walk, especially to us.

He also chose Clemson over us to begin with... so, you know, screw him.

I don't know if that is the reason or not...per JW he had almost immediate buyers remorse that never got better. Maybe his mom is sick, maybe it is a gf issue.

Garnet glasses have me believing he always wanted to be a Gamecock but that check from Clemson looked good so he took it. Now that the shiny has worn off, he wants to come where he always wanted to be. Unfortunately for Clemson, he has dirt that could crush the empire if not granted his release. Of course this is all speculative and just me spewing crap. But...sometimes crap sticks

Legit reporters stating it's his mom's health.

I think after Clemson's haul with XT and KJ joining their already stacked D-line, they can probably afford to let Belk walk. Also doesn't look good for Clemson to block a transfer for an in-state kid who is an early enrollee.

If he wants to be closer to his mom and play for us, then let's welcome him. Still skeptical about his talent, but would be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Any idea how he was progressing at Clemson?
