Notes from Spurrier:

Steve Spurrier says that the coaches will wear whistles that raise awareness for the Curing Kids Cancer Foundation.

Spurrier says Kentucky is a good team. Mark Stoops has done a good job and they were almost bowl eligible last year.

Spurrier says that "a lot of the guys are getting back healthy." Connor Mitch, Terry Googer and Deebo Samuel should all be able to practice today. Cody Waldrop is "out for some time."

Spurrier says "we will have a play ready this week. We had a play. We told him in the locker room." Spurrier says they went out for the first play and UNC wasn't out there but the play clock was running. Got a delay of game on the first play of the season. "I don't know if that's ever happened before."

Spurrier says they didn't tackle very well and didn't get lined up very well against Kentucky last year. "We played well at times (on defense)." Obviously, didn't close games out though and didn't play well enough late, Spurrier says.

Spurrier: "Winning by three or four touchdowns, I don't know if that's in our DNA right now." Have to be prepared to be in a lot of close games.

Spurrier says they don't talk about last year's Kentucky loss. "Every game stands on its own merit."

How much was the Wildcat rotation part of the plan and how much was on the fly? A lot of it was planned, Spurrier said.

Spurrier says that Clayton Stadnik is also working at center with Waldrop injured. He's a "light" center, Spurrier says, but he's working in there with Zack Bailey.

Spurrier says that Lorenzo Nunez gets a lot of snaps in practice.

Jamari Smith has moved over to wideout because of injuries, according to Spurrier.

Spurrier says they didn't have as many receivers running open as they usually do. He doesn't anticipate many changes to the receiver rotation.

Marquavius Lewis had a good, solid game. North Carolina had a good, fundamentally sound offensive line.

Skai Moore has a knack for finding the ball and making interceptions. Kirk Botkin does a good job of teaching it.

Spurrier on the George Rogers statue: "I think it's wonderful for George." Spurrier says Rogers represents the Gamecocks everywhere he goes and always has his Carolina gear on. Hopefully, we can have another one one day, Spurrier says.

Interesting note from last week: Participation chart was released today - apparently, as it was suggested to me, Chaz Elder did not travel. Spurrier never mentioned it today in his press conference. No one asked anything about why. I'm sure rumors are flying as to why and my bet is everyone is being ignored. Something will come-out sooner or later.
