Why was Mike Davis' redshirt year burned if we're only going to play him in junk time?
It makes no sense to lose a year of eligibility if he's not going to play.

Because, when he was signed he was promised he would play this year. Additionally, when Brandon Wilds was hurt during Summer Practice we needed that 3rd RB on the depth chart ready to go.

Think about it. Lattimore, Miles ... then who with Wilds out, if not Davis?

Also, if Lattie goes early, and now we are hearing he may not, but if he does do you want to go into next season without Lattie, without Miles, and only with a Wilds who is redshirting this season plus an unproven, un-battle tested Davis? Plus you have Kenderick Salley redshirting and Jamari Smith coming in ... but we needed to be assured that we'd have that one "ready" back, with playing time from this year, on next year's roster/depth chart.

redshirts are better used for OL and QBs that need an extra year to develop. Davis is a good back, but in 5 years we may want his scholarship for another back. If he's real good, he'll leave after 3 years and w/ a redshirt you would have only got 2 years out of him (a la Sidney Rice).

I get the point about playing time, but he might as well be on a scout team at practice considering he's only used in junk time versus teams that we had blown out. He has been impressive when I've seen him play, though, other than the few he got against Georgia.

He's a very good back, but if he's not going to get any time this year, he should redshirt in case he does want that extra year with the program to get better.
