This is the most unexpected switch I can remember in my lifetime. He was a strong commit since last May, tweeted by the name USC_9 and had done nothing but talk about South Carolina, been seen in SC jerseys, etc. His grandfather played ball here, lived right here in Columbia, and he had been here many times.

But he makes one visit to Florida and switches. It is a head scratcher.

I am a little shocked by this one, too. Anyone know any details about it? I thought he was about as solid of a commitment that I had seen.

He's been all Gamecock for months. He tore his ACL in October. We immediately started looking at other LB's as we are thin in that position for this coming season. We contact Yannick Naguke (sp) and a couple other LB's. Rolin scheduled a surgery with Dr Guy (our team surgeon, who's one of the best in the country). It was performed. Then he went to an Offical visit with Florida. He is rumored to have switched his commitment then. He then made the switch public via twitter Sunday.

He said he prayed on it and believed he was supposed to go to UF, who already have 3 LB's ranked higher than him committed. He will not play next season and get a RS.

The truth is we need someone that can play next season, and he can't. So this switch isn't devastating. I'm sure he'll recover and be happy.

It is devastating if we can't find a decent enough replacement. There are no real JuCo prospects to speak of, but Yannick hopefully will fill the gap, and I think that would be a lateral move really, kid is pretty durn good.

Ok, that does make sense when it is put that way.

I have also heard that our coaching staff wanted him as a TE not LB. This may have also factored into his decision, considering the depth we already have at that position he wouldn't have as immediate of an impact as he would have if we wanted him at LB. UF picked him up as LB because they already have a stable of them, they figured why not, let him play LB.

Jeeeeze ... we already have a stable of TEs and he is a helluva good looking LB prospect. I seriously hope that is not what prompted the change. He is going to be a big time LB at UF. And we are not loaded at LB, although we do have a very good class coming in, I agree.

I'm going to find out what happened through some close contacts. My bet is that it is going to be something simple - just a kid changing his mind and impressed with the Florida campus and girls.

It's ok, #1 JUCO LB in the country is giving us strong looks right now. Had an OV and hung out with Clowney and word is, they hit it off. So perhaps a blessing in disguise?

Yeah, we lost 2 of our higher rated recruits, that sucks, but look what we've done with the guys who weren't as highly rated.

Swearinger was one of the best safeties in CFB.
Brison played well, he was a 3 Star out of HS.
Byron was an excellent space eater in the SEC for a 3 star.
Corey Robinson was a 2/3 star guy, now he starts at OT.
I could throw out names like Brinkley, Norwood, Ingram, and Rice as well.

When we're looking at recruiting it's important to remember that there's no great leap from 3 to 4 star guys, it's just relative to perception, exposure and hype.

Now for simple numbers, we do need another LB, so hopefully Yannick will commit.

Yeah we are still looking for LBs. Theres some kid we might be after now who is committed to PSU who is only a 2 star out of alabama, but if you have an offer from Linebacker U, you must be doing some things right.
