I’m probably alone in this thought but...

Jake Bentley did damn near everything to win that game today. The interception was horrid, not gonna defend that, but he played damn hard and played really well after that. I’m not the fan of the Bentley fan club, and I’ve made that clear on this board. But to blame today on him is completely asinine. The receivers couldn’t catch a cold in December and the defense couldn’t stop the tight end down the seam. Just the two long balls, if they were caught, we’re looking at possibly 400yd and 5TD, plus the other drops. I counted 8 drops. We would be over the moon if the stats showed 21-27 for like 450 and 5TD, even with the one pick.

This loss is on the receivers and special teams. I actually saw glimpses of what Jake brought his freshman year, that TD to Shi Smith was Jake football.

By the way, Muschamp isn’t the reason for this. It’s been a hodge podge of problems all year, and yes Bentley has been a big part of it, but not today.

I agree.

Also thought our defense played inspired ball.

I think the defense played very well. Reminds me of the bend don't break of Ellis Johnson. ATM had a lot of plays in the red zone and had to settle for FGs. Cannot understand what is going on with the offense. Jake has been inconsistent as hell but for Edwards and Deebo to be dropping those passes are mind boggling. Not going to make it in the NFL with plays like that. Rico Dowdle has disappeared. I have to put that loss on our receivers. Jake played well enough in the second half to win. Even Shi had a couple of drops. Running before securing the ball. Cannot put this on coaching or QB. This is basic stuff learned in high school or before.

JB did more than enough yesterday to make up for the bad INT with 5:09 1Q. matter of fact, BMAC gets some blame from me for that. USC ran the ball down field into the RZ that possession and then - poof, the runs disappear.

1st and 10 at SC43 SOUTH CAROLINA drive start at 07:38.
1st and 10 at SC43 Ty'Son Williams rush for 14 yards to the TAMU43, 1ST DOWN SC (D. Capers-Smith).
1st and 10 at TAMU43 Ty'Son Williams rush for 27 yards to the TAMU16, 1ST DOWN SC (Donovan Wilson).
1st and 10 at TAMU16 Jake Bentley pass incomplete to Bryan Edwards.
2nd and 10 at TAMU16 Jake Bentley pass incomplete to Deebo Samuel, PENALTY TAMU personal foul (Debione Renfro) 8 yards to the TAMU8, NO PLAY.
2nd and 2 at TAMU08 Ty'Son Williams rush for 3 yards to the TAMU5, 1ST DOWN SC (Daylon Mack).

1st and GOAL at TAMU05 Jake Bentley pass incomplete to Josh Vann.
2nd and GOAL at TAMU05 Jake Bentley pass intercepted by Charles Oliver at the TAMU0, Charles Oliver return 0 yards to the TAMU0 (Josh Vann), touchback.

1st&G at 5...2 pass plays

we haven't hit a damn fade/jump ball in the EZ all year. my favorite call is trying to throw the fade to Kareem-Abdul Deebo and his 5'10" frame in the EZ - which has been done way too much this season. we do score on slants at the goal line - regardless of coverage - it's all on film, y'all can check it out.

WR corp with its dropped passes has cost this offense as much as as QB play this season. add in their inconsistency to block downfield and its not been pretty - or addressed, apparently.

If Bentley played worth a shite in the first half we would have won yesterday and against Kentucky. I have no faith in our team as long as he is the starter. The change needs to be made.

I was going to post something along the same lines last night after I got home from the game and was annoyed at some of the post on here, but figured I'd refrain until I was thinking more rationally. Our fans seem to be some of the quickest to jump off the bandwagon. It's almost like they don't remember Bentley saved our season two years ago, and led us to 9 wins last year. No one wanted to pull Shaw after he played poorly at LSU and followed that up with a horrendous game in Gainesville. Nor should they have. A lot of them were the same ones that wanted Nunez to start and then wanted Orth to start a couple years ago too, so keep that in mind.

Bentley had a bad game against Kentucky. No arguing that. And that pass in the endzone yesterday was one of the worse passes ever thrown, no defense at all for that. Clearly Bentley was feeling the pressure of the bad Kentucky game, a terrible pass on second down, and the fans booing and was trying to be perfect on the pass. It was the golfer with a 3 ft put for birdie hitting it 1 ft bad.

After that thought, he played about as well as anyone could. We had a season's worth of drops in one game for God sakes. Second half we had the ball 4 times, we got 3 touchdowns and the other drive died mainly thanks to Smith dropping a wide open ball that would have been a 20-25 yard gain.

Fourth quarter, in a tied game with the Aggies having a 1st and 15 to start, we let A&M physically whip out defense and chew up almost the whole period on two methodical scoring drives. That's why we lost. We couldn't get a stop. Even dropped a sure interception that led to the 3 points. The amount of missed tackles due to trying to strip the ball was staggering. I was ready to go on the field and cover 81 myself since no one else seemed to be willing to. It was frustrating as hell.

There are improvements need all over the field, but pulling Bentley isn't the answer. For all the Scar fans, remember, Purdue started a back up against Missouri too, and he literally threw for right at 600 yards. Even Jalen Hurts looked competent aginst them as a passer last night.

We did not lose the game because of Bentley

indeed. hard to watch.

how bad is it that the *only* ...3&Out...the USC defense managed all game was immediately rewarded with a fumbled punt return by Edwards to the TAM42?

that fumble was every bit, if not more costly to USC's fortunes, than the INT some 8 minutes of game time prior.

--------------------

if fans want something to really B&M about - the 'who cares what happens between the 20s' defense the past 3 seasons is a good place to start. especially since that philosophy is void the turnovers forced this season, by a wide margin through 6 games.

for a 3rd consecutive season, USC defense is bottom 4 in Opponent 1st Downs & Opponent RZ Chances. but hey, who cares cause we only give up FGs. it would be nice to field a defense that prides itself on ability to force 3&Outs and limit RZ chances.

it can be fixed in a single season because TAM is doing it this year as opposed to those under Sumlin.

TAM had 11 possessions yesterday - scored on 6, missed a FG on a 7th, punted 4 times. that's too many possessions that result in any points.

USC took the run away but an average passer Mond had a career day in completions and second best in passing yards. as you mentioned, USC's inability to cover #81 was a sad.

I just don’t get it... since our last 11-2 season, we can’t play football in the first half. 3 coaches, multiple players, and that’s been the problem.

Something needs to shift with the culture. Imagine if we played whole games like we do 3rd and 4th quarters.

A&M has a lot more talent and depth than us right now.

Spurrier and Elliott left us with a real shite show talent wise. Boom has done a lot to correct that. We just need to be patient, give him time, and he’ll get it done.

Patience is absolutely the key to success this time around.

Was it not the key to success with Spurrier either?

Look at his first 5 years, only one of them with a winning record in the SEC. shite in his 6th year we won the division with a 5-3 record.

Not sure social media was as crazy now as it was in 2009 but were the fans more patient? Or is it because we had 3 11 win seasons in a row and people assumed that would just keep going?

IMHO this.

Social media definitely contributes though.
