Just lost some credit in my book. Got the alert on my phone from ESPN saying Watson says he's the best player in the country. That voters have their own way of voting

Doesn't really surprise me ... and you can pretty much bet that's been put in his head by Dabo and staff, to speak his mind about it publicly.
That's okay though. Sterling Sharpe sorta did the same thing and most Gamecock fans agreed with Sterling at the time, (even though, if I remember correctly, Sterling didn't receive a single vote and felt snubbed because of the steroids thing his freshman season.). I'm sure the taterheads are agreeing with Watson.

Because ESPN sends general news alerts if you have the app downloaded?

Honestly, I'd rather our players have confidence like that then say, Na I'm only the 2nd best in the nation.
Clowney was basically the best player in the nation his Sophomore year and finished 6th in total votes.
You know he thought he was the best player in the nation and our fans did as well. But "technically he wasn't"
I'd rather Clowney act like he was the best then shy away and say "na 5 guys are better than me"
and to add to this, I do not think he's the best player in the nation.
I believe they are Johnathan Allen, Jabril Peppers or Myles Garrett

Did anyone actually watch the video with the interview or read the full quote? Those ESPN notifications can be misleading. Turn on the CNN app notifications if you really want a tease...

What brought this up?
Was Deshaun asked who he thought was the best?
Or did he just say this out of no where?

He also said his head coach told him that he's already better than half the QBs in the NFL, and that he should return for his senior season. So he's got the reports to back him up....

A Gamecock fan talking about Clemson anything, and you really have to ask the question?

yes I do.
If he was asked this I actually have no problem with him saying he thinks hes the best player in the nation.
I would hope one of our players would say the same if they are asked it.
I'd rather them show confidence then say "na im not"

This...exactly this. If one of our boys felt the same and had the play to back it up, I'm all for them showing this confidence.
In Watson's case, I believe he is the best player in college football as well. The guy kicked our tails three years in a row. Without him, Clemson probably wouldn't have won the last three games. Without him, Clemson is probably a 3-4 loss team this year. The kid is special and I have no issue admitting so.
Unfortunately, they have a 5 star committed for the next two recruiting cycles. I don't believe they'll hold on to both, but they have them now. With that said, Watson is no ordinary 5 star. His intelligence of the game and ability to perform when the pressure is the highest is what makes him special. He did throw a good many INTs this year, but not all of those were on him.
Now do I see him translating to a top tier NFL QB, it all depends. Time will tell, but it really depends on where he goes in the draft. If he goes to Cleveland, his career will flame out quick. If he goes later to a team where he can learn behind a veteran, he has the potential to be a good NFL QB.
So to close this novel out, if he was asked the question, I'm all for him saying yea I'm the best. If he's just took to the Twitter world crying about it, then that's a different story.

I thought it was pretty clear. You weren't responding to Watson, you were responding to Lonnie Utah, who is a South Carolina fan. Of course, he can always respond back to this thread and disclose that he read what he posted (an edited quote of another South Carolina fan) from some creditable sports source who is actually claiming that Swinney is brainwashing his FB players. Then I will stand corrected.
However unless that happens IMO it's a very clear assumption to make that Lonnie made his post because and ONLY because he is a South Carolina Gamecock fan making a negative post about Clemson's FB program. That's all I was saying.....
