With conference tourneys starting up in the mid majors, and the last week of the season starting up I'm ready for the silver lining on probably the worst month of the year.

Atleast we get March Madness which is hands down one of the best sports "events" of the year. The first two days are magical and make a month with no holidays a little better. (who else took off that Friday???)

Any predictions? teams you like?

My hot take: Tennessee doesn't make it out the first weekend. And Nevada gets bounced in the first round.

I Like UNC right now to win it all, Coby White becomes MOP and becomes a top 10 draft pick next year.

A lot of people down on Kansas right now, but Bill Self (although hasn't been a title winner since 07-08) I think gets them into t he Final Four, again.

Gonzaga loses to a P5 8/9 seed in Rd 2

Houston loses in a Regional Semi

Nevada flames out day 1 (agree with you)

Wofford is seeded 8/9 in 1 Virginia's pod and beats UVA Rd 2 - possibly in Colonial Life Arena.

Duke is gifted a 2 seed in Gonzaga's West region and benefits from Gonzaga losing early. Duke will still play in Columbia its first 2 games before traveling to Anaheim for the regional.

Texas Tech is the only B12 team to advance to 2nd weekend. Kansas is over-seeded and drops a 4/13 game.

Kentucky, Tennessee, LSU advance to Sweet 16 - two make Elite 8 - one makes the Final 4.

the 5 other SEC schools to make the tournament go a combined 2-5 on the first weekend. Auburn and Florida are the only 2 to win a game.

Unless UVA shoots like they did against cuse.
I think Wofford beats em.

I think Wofford is a the perfect NCAA tourney team and if Wofford gets hot I don’t think UVA’s style will help them get back into the game

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
Ticket's Punched

Murray State (SC's own JA Morrant-and a top 3 draft picK)
Bradley
Gardner Webb
Liberty

Championship of note tonight.
SOCON- Wofford vs UNCG

The big boys start tomorrow (ACC)
Followed by the next day (SEC, Big East, Big 12, Big10)

Going to try and get to the BigEast again this year.
Last year was sweet got to the Bgi10 and BigEast at the garden. And ACC at Barclays.

This year the A10 is at Barclays. Literally have no care to go to that at all. (Client tickets are at a surplus this year unlike the ACC)

LOL Tennessee

borrowed from the rant ...

just for shits & giggles - USC's path to the NCAAT through the SECT could include

#17 NET Auburn (5)
#13 NET LSU (1)
#5 NET Kentucky (2)
#6 NET Tennessee (3)

Gamecocks have 7 Q1/Q2 wins with a chance at 3 more in Nashville. updated NET ranks moved Stony Brook L back up to Q3 while L at Wyoming remains Q4. that's 2 losses in Q3/Q4 total for Carolina and its 78 NET rank.

I'd like to hear the explanation how Baylor (36 NET) has 1 Q3 loss and 2 Q4 losses and isn't crucified nearly as bad as USC has been all season for its 1 Q3 and 1 Q4 losses.

Baylor 36 NET, USC 78 NET ...and the bears have more Q3/Q4 losses. 42 spots variance in the NET ranks and Baylor has more bad losses than USC.

USC
Q4 - at Wyoming (320)
Q3 - Stony Brook (160)

Baylor *all 3 at home
Q4- Stephen F Austin (313)
Q4 - Texas Southern (230)
Q3 - Oklahoma St (82)

Simple really.
Baylor doesn’t get it because they went 8-4 OOC then finished. 10-8 in what the media perceives a better conference.
Baylor also the last 5-6 years has had a better name with regards to tourney success, no they’ve never gotten to a final four but outside of that they’ve been a name in the tourney.

Also, realistically, other than this website, i really haven’t seen anyone crucify us at all.
Maybe they discussed it here and there during one of our games but from when I watched it was more the talking heads making a case for us with our SEC record

here's some of that "success"

Baylor's only real reputation in College hoops involves Dave Bliss and one of his players murdering another and everyone covering it up.

they are not a 'brand' in college hoops that carries more weight than Frank Martin and his NCAAT showing at both KSU/USC. put Frank's 24-8 USC team in that got snubbed wrongly and it makes a perceived gap between the programs even more ridiculous.

when I say 'crucify' - I'm speaking more about the math than anything in the media. you're right - we've gotten some good buzz in the media especially since SEC play started.

both schools lost to Oklahoma State, only Baylor did it at home.

I understand they beat us but Baylor’s been an NCAAT team “regular” outside of last year.

And yea it’s mostlt the “wtf” of the Net. But apparently defensive and offensive efficiency are also factored in that.

Where do they stand compared to us?

I've just been following the team sheets put out by the NCAA website. not sure what the off/def efficiency ratings are. I'm guessing they're among some of these ratings from the team sheets?

BAY (KPI 35, SOR 36) (BPI 40, POM 35, SAG 38) Avg NET win 118 / Avg NET loss 78

USC (KPI 80, SOR 68) (BPI 78, POM 73, SAG 70) Avg NET win 122 / Avg NET loss 59

BAY Strength of Sched "Div I only" 38 / "Div I Non-conf" 155
USC Strength of Sched "Div I only" 37 / "Div I Non-conf" 83

I have no issue with USC not getting an at-large NCAAT bid without an SECT CG appearance, I just don't trust all these calculations and their overall lack of transparency to treat everyone equal. I can accept Baylor has been awarded more Q1/Q2 wins with this system, I just can't believe their ranking to be 42 spots higher than USC while having more Q3/Q4 losses than the Gamecocks.

Texas is 16-15 overall and has a 39 NET. Indiana is 17-14 and sits at 51 NET. 15-15 Gamecocks (per the NET) at 78.

Here’s how Net is calculated

LINK

Not exactly sure what O/D efficiency they are using, but here are a few when i searched

Just based on the tweet I showed first, maybe that’s the reason for the gap?

thanks for the links.

I'm not headed down the rabbit hole too far, but at first glance USC has scored 2166 pts in 30 qualified games vs 2227 for Baylor in 31 games. 61 points in favor of Baylor somehow helps equate to a 97 to 255 advantage in OFF EFF for the bears.

there's more to it than points scored for OFF EFF, of course. it's just hard to believe that getting a lot of shots up at the basket can be a bad thing when it comes to being selected for the NCAAT.

the overall NET ranking and its 'transparent' (sarcasm) way all 5 factors are weighted results in more questions than answers.

check this out https://extra.ncaa.org/solutions/rpi/Stats%20Library/NET%20Nitty%20Gritty%20-%20Games%20through%20March%2010,%202019.pdf

- I'm guessing the selection committee will see these 'nitty gritty' (seriously?) reports in their room. take a look at 78 Carolina compared to 51 Indiana.

I'd love Wofford as an 8 seed for a potential 2nd Rd game vs a 1.

Cougs just blew the SoCon Semi. they can't beat Northeastern at the Coliseum. they should move the tourney downtown at TD Arena. it ain't like N Chas is raking in fist fulls of cash hosting the tourney at the airport.

Think you mean the Colonial?
Is it not there now?

(Espn just says North Charleston)

yeah - bourbon haze. luckily I didn't slip back to the Transy. Cougs actually beat N'eastern in finals last year in OT - I was wrong on that too. they've dropped a few to them in reg season over the years.

Coliseum has held the SoCon and CAA tourneys a few times. TD Arena has only hosted the Thanksgiving tournament.

had no clue the ACC was in Charlotte this year.

shite it's been all over.

Is it me or does it just seem like that one needs to just be in Greensboro every year?
