There’s no way to put a value on what Connor Shaw has meant to South Carolina’s football team during what has been the most successful run in school history.
He’s 22-4 as the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback and might as well be made out of titanium.
In just about every sense, Shaw is the essence of what college football should be.

Bold prediction: South Carolina will win the SEC East. That means the Gamecocks will need Georgia to lose at least one more conference game, while they win out. It can, and will, happen. Missouri and Florida pose threats, but South Carolina gets Florida at home and Mizzou is down its starting quarterback.

So you're saying that ESPN loves the cock!

There's going to be a drop off next year w/ Thompson. Hard to replicate what Shaw does for the team (no disrespect to DT, whom I think will be very good for us).
He demoralizes defenses. Hate that his huge run got called back last year. Would love to see him break another 50+ for a TD.

I'm not completely sold on Thompson being the go to guy next year. He will be a fifth year senior, has meaningful in game experience and has a decent to plus arm... but there are two guys behind him who I think could put the pressure on in the spring and fall practices to take over the team.
Nosovitch would be the best bet if we didn't want to almost completely change the game plan we're running now. He's a mobile guy like Shaw who can make throws. The system we have in place now with Shaw at the helm would not have to be tweeked too much in order to keep the offense humming.
If, however, we want to go to a more classic balanced approach (with a stable of runners to tote the rock and the QB and WRs providing the counterweight) that would lend itself to having a prototypical QB at the helm. That would be Thompson or Mitch. Thompson has the experience and meaningful game time to fall back on, but Mitch is the guy Spurrier has been waiting for (IMO).
Shaw is going to be missed, for sure. His grit and will to win can't be easily replaced. But we have three capable QBs in the wings, waiting to see what they can provide for the program.

From what I am hearing, Thompson could very well continue as backup next season.
Look for Mitch to possibly take Thompson's job in the spring.

Mitch is going to be an awesome QB and our Air Raid offense will be putting up legit passing numbers, but I don't see him beating out a 5th year Sr who's 4-0 with 2 ranked team wins already.

Normally I would agree. But this is Connor Mitch, he of 40+ offers.

I think this is going to play a bigger role next season than most fans are anticipating.
Granted we've got a ways to go but the consensus seems to be that Thompson will start and Mitch could take him as the season goes on. But I would be surprised to see Nosovitch named the starter coming out of Spring practice/Fall camp
