Why can't Dabo and clem5on develop top tier talent?

“They say I can’t run routes, so I definitely have to show them that I am probably one of the best receivers at running routes in the combine,” he said.

Watkins credited (Bruce) Ellington with helping him refine his route running.

“I don’t think a lot of guys are on mine and his level on route running and knowing the fundamentals of break points and things like that,” Watkins said.

That guy was a “mess,” (referring to his college career) and nothing like the new and improved and faster – yes, faster – Sammy Watkins that NFL scouts will see this week, Watkins told The State as he prepared for the NFL Combine, which will begin Thursday in Indianapolis.

“I am 10 times faster than I was in college,” Watkins said. “My body was so messed up that I can get 10 times faster. I was using 60 percent of my body, and I have 40 percent more I need to get out.”

Good for him, I've always secretly liked him. He is electric and fun to watch (not in person, he never impressed me playing Carolina ) but on the TV against the ACC he was a stud.

I've seen a couple mock drafts of Clowney going 1st and Watkins going 2nd overall. I doubt he goes quite that high but its neat to think that Carolina and Clemson players could get drafted 1st and 2nd overall.
DeAndre Hopkins had a solid rookie season and I think Watkins can be better than Hopkins. I wouldn't mind the Panthers taking him.

Was his body messed up because of drugs?

IT HAS BEGUN!!!! (I seriously did it again, I typed "taternet, com" twice and didn't know why nothing was coming up.)

I know people are going to TD me like crazy for bringing this up, but it really makes me nervous about our S&C program that Sammy is saying "“In two weeks, I can tell I am 10 times more flexible. I am working on muscles we didn’t work on (in college), different stretches, different workouts.”

The flexibility thing was brought up by Richard Sherman regarding Byron Maxwell too...it really seems like we're leaving a lot on the table by using the program we've got. We've obviously had good success the past 3 years, but it's discomforting to know people are seeing immediate improvement as soon as they leave our S&C program.

So you're telling me the coaching staff and S&C staff give as much attention to how Sammy's working out as they do to the walk-on players? I'd be willing to bet guys like Sammy, Tajh, etc. got their fair share of "personal training".

No need to try to throw out personal barbs, btw.
quote:

the state made that up. Only quote you see in there about route running and Ellington from Sammy is where he states him and Ellington have an advantage on route running over other WR's. the state made things up about Sammy's last Clemson press conference. the state tried to make it look like Sammy was only thinking about the NFL the whole season, when he had repeatedly stated throughout the season and before the Orange Bowl, that he wasn't thinking about it until the season was over.

That's probably most likely the culprit, or just a really poor S&C program at clem5on. Either way, I think it's safe to say that the clem5on staff didn't do a great job of preparing a star like Sammy Watkins for the NFL.

Bruce is going to go off in the NFL. Great hands and I think a lot of people overlooked his route running.

Perfect size and speed for a slot receiver and couple it with his hands, route running and work ethic and Bruce might go higher than people are expecting.

I'd love Dallas to pick him up, but we've already got Cole Beasley in that Welker-type role.

Pretty sure pot wasn't the only thing Watkins dabbled in.

Wasn't he pulled over with prescription pills and he didn't have the prescription?

Ah thanks, couldn't remember if it was more serious than that.

Still, seems like he could've been involved with some heavier stuff.
