-Tight end Pro Wells, the Marshall commit from St. Petersburg, Fla., picked up a South Carolina offer over the weekend. Tony and I both entered a Crystal Ball prediction for Wells to the Gamecocks and I think the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder, though raw, has a big upside.
quote:
-South Carolina offered 2016 defensive end Jacoby Hill of Atlanta (Ga.) Carver and I must say his film is extremely impressive. McClendon has this area for the Gamecocks and has recruited it well in the past. This is a great evaluation for the BUCK linebacker position. Hill is listed at 6-foot-3, 211 pounds and that’s the body type that you need there.
quote:
-Athlete Jeriko Morris (Crystal Springs, Miss.) is committed to Southern Miss, has some academic work to get done to qualify, but is a big-time talent. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder could be a receiver or play in the secondary. South Carolina has offered and it will be interesting to see how things progress with the Gamecocks, but this is quite a find by Muschamp and staff.

-Three-star defensive tackle Kobe Smith (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer) is no longer enrolling early. It still looks like South Carolina or Kentucky here.

I have no idea what's going on with this situation. A few weeks ago, I thought we had flipped him. Then it turns out that he submitted all his paperwork to EE at Kent, but we didn't have his paperwork in (I believe.) So now he's not EE'ing at all. I would think that would be good for us, but I don't know.

I would definitely consider that a major plus for us. I view that as good news. I dunno, who knows.

Jamarcus King not enrolling early:
quote:
Cornerback signee Jamarcus King (Eight Mile, Ala./Coffeyville JC) will not enroll early at South Carolina. He still plans to become a Gamecock and is expected to enroll this June. King has an academic matter to take care of before he will be able to enroll.

Update on Smith Situation:
quote:
Due to a mistake on his transcript, Lawrenceville (Ga.) three-star defensive tackle Kobe Smith will not be enrolling early. He will now take an official visit to South Carolina later this month, but he is not sure of the date as of yet.

Most unfortunate, I had already penciled him in as a starter next year, but that was based on his EE and learning the scheme the same time everyone else is, in spring camp. As long as he gets here, it will be ok though.

3* WR Kiel Pollard, who was the GA 6A Offensive Player of the Year and was named 2nd Team All American by MaxPreps, is OV'ing to SC this weekend. Currently an Ark commitment, but the 3 most recent CB's are for SC.
I watched his Sr highlight and looked at his stats. He was definitely a producer.
6'2"
220 lbs
300 lb bench press
460 lb squat
76 receptions
1163 receiving yards
18 receiving TD's
13 rushing TD's (they used him as the goal line RB/Wildcat.)
21 Punt Returns for 223 yds (10.6 avg)
From the film, it's apparent he's not a burner, he's probably around a 4.6-4.7 40 yd guy. He also doesn't consistently show knowledge of where the sticks/yard markers are at, but that's just experience/coachable level and can be fixed. The speed part will take much more work/training.
He is strong, very strong for a WR, it is not easy for HS DB's/OLB's to bring him down. He got A LOT of yards after contact, many b/c of bad tackling/angles, but there were still plenty of times where he just powered through/by defenders. He has good body control and strong hands, He also shows really solid leaping ability. He also made a fistful of catches near the sidelines and showed good control keeping his feet in bounds. I really liked his blocking highlights as well (they don't show those enough in WR highlight videos usually.) He can overmatch, physically, a lot of DB's in the SEC. I don't think we've had a truly great blocking WR since Dion LeCorn. He has good moves and quickness, but not elite. His vision is also really solid, and he see's how his down field blockers are going to open lanes for him. Definitely a long stride runner.
Overall, a really solid prospect, with great physicality and body control. If he can get faster and closer to a 4.5, he could be an elite WR.

Kinda hard to see that kid remain a 3* after being voted the OPOTY in the highest level of prep FB in GA. I think a bump to 4* is imminent in his future....

Possibly, but maybe just bumped up to a high 3* (88-89 rating.) Pollard is also a solid basketball player, which probably helps to explain his good hands and body control. If he was just a little faster, he'd be a lock to be a 4*. However, speed isn't the only reason they make 4*'s and this player has everything else, so it's possible.

3* DE Jacoby Hill talks about recent offer:
quote:
“I was happy and excited about it,” Hill said. “I love the SEC, so it was big. Coach (Bryan McClendon is my recruiter and he let me know about the offer.”
“He was telling me that I could be an impact player for the team and have a chance to play a lot right off the bat. I already have a bond with coach McClendon and I spoke to coach (Will) Muschamp a little bit when he was at Auburn. Plus, Jadeveon Clowney is my idol, so I would love to follow in his footsteps.”
“I plan to visit South Carolina on January 29. I am visiting Memphis on January 15 and Indiana on January 22. Those schools are recruiting me the hardest and Kansas State UCF, too.”
“I want to be able to develop myself as a player and as a leader and become a better man,” he said. “I also want to make sure the school has my major and be able to make sure I will have a chance to compete for playing time.”

Pretty sure I saw that he was laser timed at 4.83 which may be why he hasn't blown up more. I will say that Propst said that he never went down after the first contact.

His film is really good apparently, a lot of the insiders on 247 are raving about the kid.
I haven't watched it so not sure.

I would believe around a 4.8 and that he never or rarely went down after first contact. He looked very strong. There are a bunch of drills he can work on to drop that about a quarter second within a year.
