Oh well, the ladies screwed the pooch against the Vols in their final game. Don't know if winning the reg. season title one game earlier - thus taking away significance from this game - had anything to do with it, but the Gamecocks struggled today, especially in dealing with the Vols' center, who dominated.
USC will play the winner between Vandy and UGA on Friday noon. Let's regroup and take the SECT!!

Mixed bag in my opinion. Would have loved to beat the Vols on their home court to close out the regular season (definite changing of the guard moment)... but getting a loss out of the way here means we don't have to lose again the rest of the way!!

Wonder if the guys will come out with the same intensity as we did against UK. Would love to see us at least hang around with Florida on Tuesday.

I think we should beat Florida and not storm the court. Keep em guessing!!
(Or I guess we could storm the court after getting beat down... same difference...)

According to 247's VIP Notes
"We still do expect some transition on the roster at the end of the season with the likelihood of at least three players electing to transfer to find more playing time and the possibility of a fourth."

Omw out to the CLA. Here's to something good happening tonight.

We hung tough with them for the 1st half and a bit of the 2nd to start, but they just shut us down there for the last 10 minutes or so of the game, and Frazier could not be stopped (or maybe he could, we didn't do much to try and find out).
At least Miss State is actually as bad as we are or perhaps even worse, so we might have a chance to go down to Starkville and end the season on a winning note...

Yeah I thought we played pretty good in the 1st half, the place was rocking then we just fizzled down the stretch. Really we never played well except when Brenton had the 7 pt stretch in back to back possessions.

CFM suspended for Miss State game this upcoming Saturday.

Uugh....I'd hate for this to lead to Coach Martin moving on....

Yeah, people freaking out for no reason. This is what you got when you hired the guy, you shouldn't have even considered him if this is going to be a huge deal. I honestly don't have a problem with the way he treats his players on or off the court as long as the players love and respond to his coaching in a positive manner. It would be a real shame if CFM does end up leaving in the future because of something like this. Would really like to see him succeed here at USC.
I thought him calling Duane an a-hole was a little bit over the top though. Wish Tanner maybe would've pulled him aside and talked to him before giving him a suspension, but who knows maybe he already has.

Press Conference Notes from Today:
Press Conference Video
Press Conference Video

Coach Martin opening statement ...
Regretfully sitting in front of you are embarrassing his family, current players, former players and the University.
Reflects on who he is and what he does. He has to fix his own problems because he can't fix other peoples problem if he has them.
He is extremely disappointed in his ignorant actions that have negatively impacted his team.
Says he fully, fully supports Ray Tanners decision on this. He did not act based on one situation, says they have been in constant dialogue the past five or six months on things to help him.
Martin says he very happy that Ray Tanner is his boss.
quote:
Martin says he has talked a lot about maturity this year, it is time he has to show maturity.
Martin says he gave up swearing his last year at Kansas State but he has strayed from that.
quote:
Martin says he needs the help of his family with this problem, his wife who is extremely embarrassed, his mother who has not stopped crying the last two days.
Says if this happens again, there is only one person to blame.
Martin wants to point out that he does not speak like he did 24 hours a day. He has to work on his time during games.
quote:
Martin says he speaks with his players about everything he does. He has spoken with them about this.
Says he does not let his players swear, if they do that, he is not happy. He has asked them to mature and he has to do the same.
quote:
Martin says he was uncomfortable with the event after the game. He knew what we had said and felt uncomfortable after the game. Says he left recruiting the following morning and called Tanner during the trip. They needed to meet face to face and they did that yesterday afternoon.
Asked how he would feel if someone treated or said the things to his son that he did, how would he feel? Says he thinks that the majority of people who have had kids play for him would speak highly of him but he needs to work on things.
quote:
Martin says he is going to Tennessee tomorrow for his daughter's cheerleading competition. He does not know if or how he will watch the game.
Says it is going to he hard to not be there for his guys.
The University trusted him to fix the problems, not create them.
That wraps up Martin.

Good conference, and good response. I like Coach Martin, and think he can get USC to being a winning program. Would have hated this to turn into something that drives him away...

USC's WBB beat UGA decisively 67-48. Almost got up by 30 pts on UGA halfway through the 2nd half until Coach Staley pulled all the starters and let the reserves finish the game. Gave them some valuable SECT experience for later while giving our starters some much-needed rest to ensure they stay fresh for the entire tourney run.

TAMU is currently handling Auburn. All 4 top seeds in the SEC should hold meaning no upsets getting into the semi's.

Good to see the guys pull of the win in Starkville to get the lone road win of the year. Interested to see if we can pull off a win against Auburn in the SECT this Wednesday. And props to Brenton & Thornwell both balling out tonight.
Really have been impressed by Kacinas' play of late & Big Chat when he's in the game. Both have played outstanding in my mind the past few weeks. Chat just needs to be more conditioned b/c he just can't stay out there for long periods b/c he gets worn out to easily.

Sindarius Thornwell Earns SEC Freshman of the Week
quote:
South Carolina’s Sindarius Thornwell, a 6-foot-5, 206-pound freshman guard from Lancaster, S.C., was named SEC?Freshman of the Week after averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and four assists against Florida and Mississippi State. He recorded his second double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds at Mississippi State and broke BJ McKie’s school record for most 20-plus point games by a freshman in SEC play with his sixth.
