Meyer
Dabo
Pete Carroll
Gus
Mullen
Ed O
Patterson
Peterson
Leach to an extent
Riley
Brian Kelly
Kirby Smart
Problem is...they could be fixed. They have talent. Just need a guy who can manage the chaos.
No elite coach would want the job though. It's a train wreck. So yes plenty could in theory...problem is no one that could would touch UT right now

He’s incompetent. Kiffin, Dooley, Butch Jones, Pruitt, and Freddie Kitchens. Need I say more?

Any quality coach. The East only has one team at the moment and UT when rolling can recruit with the best. They just have a streak of dumb hires. If they would fork out the money for a proven coach they would be alright instead of hiring coordinators and low level HCs like they are a smaller school.

Funny if Herman got texas back with a pulse then Vols hired him away.

This would be interesting, but Tressel is getting up in age. Tenn should jump on this.

Exactly. This happens to programs. Oklahoma and Alabama both had a run of bad hires in the 90s. Took just one guy for each school to bring them back.

This is very true, but the point being made in this thread is "that guy" will not be willing to go there if Phil is there. If you fire him, they will come.

I think Tressel has no desire to coach anymore. He’s surely had opportunities since his show cause expired to get back into it.

UT has had opportunities to hire experienced winners.
Greg Shiano took one of the all time top laughing stocks Rutgers to prominant respectibility with many bowl seasons.
From 2005 to his last year there 2011, his record was 56-33. The Scarlet Knights returned to the doormat when he left.
Thank you Clay Travis for derailing that one.
Mike Leach since 2015 is 40-16 at Washington State. If Leach can produce big seasons at Wazzu he certainly would have at UT.
Thank you Phil Fulmer for derailing this hire.
Sorry UT fans, bottom line is y'all have ignorant influences keeping the football program down.

I doubt Tennessee ever gets back to their peak. They are not quite Nebraska in this regard, but they really never had the home recruiting base to do what they did.
That being said, there are several coaches that could return them to being a very formidable team year in and year out.
Any coach who knows what asparagus is could lift them from the dumpster fire they currently are
