Question for Florida fans.

How’s the defense supposed to be? I live in TN and all my vol friends talk about is Florida’s secondary having a bunch of injury’s.
What kind of out come are you predicting tonight? That half point scares me.

I can't speak for Florida obviously, but when I was doing my breakdown of the Florida Miami game I didn't look any further than Athens, Georgia to figure out Florida is probably in trouble in this one.
Remember what Kirby Smart was able to do with Mark Richt's players? Now, Manny Diaz can coach ball. I mean, he's good. And he has a Mark Richt roster.
I expect Miami to be pretty darn good. Florida? Eh, Mullens is good too, but remember at Mississippi State it took him several years to build them into a contender type team.
I think Miami wins this one. Real talk.

Our starting secondary is healthy. The back ups are green.
But Wilson, Henderson, and Dean is as good as it gets in the country in terms of 1-3 corners. Safeties have four players who have produced, so no concerns there.
As for the rest. DT has depth issues and no "elite" player. DE is loaded. LB has some good players.
Defense should improve from last year. Def a top 25 defense, we will see if top ten but think depth will soften it some later in the year.

Um..Kirby lost to Florida year one. This may be the dumbest break down of a game I have seen in awhile. I mean this is holy frick dumb.

Everyone forgets Marco Wilson. He was a freshman who was good enough to start at Florida in 2017. He was hurt on like the 2nd play against Kentucky last year and hasn't played in a year, so people have forgotten how good he is.
Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson are two of your better starting corners nationally. Trey Dean played every game as a freshman and is the nickel. They have 4 safeties that play. The supposed starters are Jaewon Taylor and Brad Stewart, but Donovan Stiner plays a lot too, and has started, and is very good against the run. Quincy Lenton is the 4th guy and the primary back up.
All of the safeties are Juniors or seniors. CJ is a junior, Marco is a RS Soph, so it's an experienced, older unit with a lot of talent. 4 of them could go pro this year.
The only question is depth if people get hurt at CB specifically. The back ups are all freshmen.
That being said, if someone like Marco or CJ gets hurt, Trey Dean will slide over to corner from nickel and Amari Burney will slide back to nickel from LB because of his versatility as a former safety.
After that, Kair Elam a freshman is the next corner of the bench.
So if they stay healthy, this is one of the best secondaries in the country.

Kirby’s first year they were not a very good team. I know they went 8-4 but lost to Ole Miss, TN, Vandy and Ga Tech

The front 7 is solid but not exceptional IMO. Very blue collar.
Jabari Zuniga is a solid edge guy, Kyree Campbell and Adam Shuler are solid in the interior in that they do their job, but aren't exceptional, Jonathan Greenard should be able to step in for Jachai's old spot and disrupt from that position based on his play at Louisville under Grantham.
The depth is OK, with Zach Carter and Jeremiah Moon providing depth behind Greenard and Zuniga. At DT, Ancrum, Dunlap Jr., and Slaton are decent back ups.
The LB starters are Amari Burney and David Reese. Burney is going to be a household name most likely given his versatility, size, and speed. Reese is the QB of the defense and one of the best run stopping LBs in the SEC.
The depth at LB is very solid with RS Soph Ventrell Miller and Justin Houston. Very good players.
So the DL and LB unit have solid players, good depth, and should be a pretty consistent unit because so many of them are experienced juniors and seniors.

Defense is decent but thin in depth and can't afford anymore injuries or suspensions.

Yea...we have plenty of depth at LB, Safety, and DE. DT is a little thinner but still has a three man rotation in it if Carter is moving in there as well.
