He doesn't have a buyout, just a contractual obligation to pay him. If we fire him, we continue to pay him until the contract is over.
A buyout is like what we have for Gus, where he is paid a reduced sum if fired

Not sure about JJ's buyout, but Malzahns is in line with what other coaches get. Stupid yes, but all SEC schools have similar buyouts.

Doesn't really matter because Jacobs will retire if the powers that be want it that way.
At this point in time, he has it set up to retire in Auburn where he has been since he started school in the 80s. If he gets fired, that relationship with AU + community is shifted.

We can literally thank Jacobs for starting that. His Chizik buyout became the norm

Tubs had a buyout before that, 5.1 million...even Tiny Terry had a buyout...

I felt like last year there was some discussion about him retiring soon after working a certain number of years and therefore maximizing his state retirement benefit. Not sure if any of that was true.

Never held a job outside of Lee County in his adult life. But there was one job for one year at the beginning of his career outside the Auburn city limits, so at least he tried to spread his wings.
Totes qualified to run a national multi-million dollar brand.

I wish I could have a buyout in my contract. I'd perform so shitty at this point

Our AD has never worked outside of Lee County.
It is mind boggling.

He'll quietly "retire" or take a lesser role in the athletic department to "concentrate on his personal/family life". Zero chance he is fired per se.

It's insane that Auburn hasn't upgraded to a seasoned-national AD given the commercialization in college football.

lol... you guys are funny.
Who hires the AD? The GOBs do.
"WRONG! The President does!"
Who hires the President? The GOBs do.
"WRONG! The Board of Trustees hires the President!"
Who are the Board of Trustees almost entirely beholden to? The GOBs with the big pocket-books.
Its almost like some of you slept through your entire time at Auburn, living in a Pretend World of How You Think Things Should Be instead of the Real World of How Things Are.
