The Navarre Beach Fishing Pier is located between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola, Florida. At 1,545 feet long and 30 feet above the water, the pier is the longest of its kind in the state, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Been on that pier many a time. OK, like maybe 5. My father-in-law had a place in Navarre for a few years and we'd go down there a couple of times a year. Pretty quiet beaches and right next to the protected seashore.

All of that is one of the reasons I would never swim in that part of Florida. All of those fish bring in bigger, predatory fish, which is why there is no great shortage of overhead shots of the beaches in that area with a dozen or or so sharks swimming around.

The other is the riptides. I used to work next door to the Coast Guard station in the area and hearing the chopper go out once or twice a week to get someone's body was a fairly sobering thing.

I used to always walk out into the ocean as far as I could before it was over my head. That was until I had about a 4-5' shark get about 6' from me before swimming away. Very harrowing. Now I don't get in any water I can't see the ocean floor and isn't more than waist deep.
