Only LSU weakness I have seen...

...so far this year is in the secondary and that surprises me. I am curious as what y'all think about this observation.
It looks like LSU is not very good at defending the pass. What do y'all think?
I think LSU is the only team I have seen thus far that is better up front on offense and defense than BAMA but the secondary is a reason for concern in my opinion.

You lose a def coord, you lose two cb with a lot of game experience, and you lose a safety in Steltz last year that lined the whole secondary up. LSU has also been without Beckwith for two SEC games and you miss that leadership.
It is a concern, and will be exploited the next 3 weeks.

I'm anxious to see House take on Cody.
We have three new starters at cornerback/nickel in Chris Hawkins, Jai Eugene, and PP.
It actually looked as if we got some of the CB stuff fixed against Miss St. They abused a linebacker several times on passes to the RB however.

The whole secondary is new. It was my worry coming into the season(even more so than the QBs believe it or not). They've actually done OK.

Send a RB on a wheel route and it's almost a sure thing. I bang my head every time some no-name RB gets 20+ yards a reception. Our LBs just can't cover a RB. It was obvious since last year's USC game. Hopefully Beckwith's return can change this or we can adjust the D scheme to get better coverage.

For what it's worth,I think the QB's look great.

Well Scoop, he still makes freshman mistakes but we'll see. He has three straight tests coming up. As for the secondary, they're a BIG concern right now.

In my opinion the corners are fine. It's the LBs and the safties I've seen out of position. On State's last TD, Jones should have been on the RB, and Hawkins couldn't get over fast enough to help.

I agree. J Lee can thow the ball just as good as Flynn and Hatch makes good decisions (except knowing when to slide

It's hard to hide a huge hole in the D.

Scoop, I think it's amazing what a year makes. I think last year we had the CB's and Safeties to utilize the Blitz more often, yet we were content with sending four down linemen.
This year we have blitzed probably more than we did all last year combined and we've put some young CB's on an island too often which is usually when we've given up the big plays.

LSU's defensive backfield scares me. I would have thought any flaws would have been corrected by now, I know missing the Troy game hurt but I am having Lou Tepper flashbacks, when no lead was sacred. Too many big plays. Even RB's of Moo U avgd. 3.5 yards a carry. We gave Moo U hope their lee could be special and made Todd look all SEC. It's not just the inexperience, something isn't right with the system. When you give up big plays, one person doesn't mess up, two are out of place.
Am a bit worried. Sure by seasons end it will be fixed, but every week I think it's going to be fixed......

DB's have been a big question mark since the Spring. I don't understand why anyone is surprised.

the ability is there, there's just a lot of mental mistakes happening with blown coverages. luckily it has not cost us yet, but against bama, uga, or uf it might bite us in the arse. we really need beckwith back though, he is the glue that keeps that defense together.

I'll be interested to see that too. Both are large but the major difference is that Herman is in excellent physical shape and Cody is a pure lard arse. I think Herman wins this battle if Cody even makes it that far without getting hurt. A team with smaller lineman is sure to chop him. Just saying.

Exactly, it is solely mental mistakes. Well maybe not solely in the case of McCray, he just gets burned.
LSU is giving up 2/3 big plays a game, but overall the pass yards they are giving up are all on short routes. LSU allows other teams to hit the receivers in the flats, or short underneath routes.
The problem is when LSU goes into Nickel and Dime packages they do not know who has what assignment. Opposing players are streaking wide open down the field becuase the secondary has a mis-communication.
The LB'ers need to step up on the RB wheel routes, but outside of that it is all mental between the Dime/Nickel and their belief in Safety help over the top.

our secondary actually hasn't been bad. our line backers covering backs has been bad. the lack of pressure and blitzing has been enough to make me wana throw up and mccray ever seeing the field is not helping us.
maybe im making it out to be worse than it is but god dammit i'm spoiled by the great d we are used to having now. also i don't want to see a repeat of 98/99

Bringing pressure is something the coaching staff just does not do, for some strange reason. I guess LSU believes that their D-line alone can collapse a pocket.
If they don't bring pressure Florida will eat them up.

Our cornerbacks are pretty solid and I'm happy with their play but our safeties and our nickel/dime package is a different story.
I think we avoided the blown coverages this week but we did a really poor job with picking up RBs out of the back field. It was Sabanisque.
Thankfully, MSU exposed that problem well. But it will be difficult to go with our dime on 3rd and 5 against Bama because their running games looks good. However, we should be able to get away with it at UF.

I've tried to be nice but I had to talk a little smack because they were off the chart before the game. I guess thought Alabama was going to lay down because they were ranked nmber 3 and wearing black...Wrong!!
