The NCAA rulebook details a number of requirements for something to be considered a catch, but these are the three main pieces. For a catch, the player:

1. Secures firm control with the hand(s) or arm(s) of a live ball in flight
before the ball touches the ground, and

2. Touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then

3. Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.

Just looked it up on the NCAA website.

What does it say about laying on the ground and being out of bounds and then gaining control?

The "catch" LITERALLY fails the first requirement of a completion.

4. If an Alabama receiver is involved in the replay, disregard 1, 2, and 3.. it's a catch.

5. If Alabama CB or Saftey is involved in the replay, disregard 1, 2, 3, and 4... it's not a catch.

Just looked it up on the NCAA website.

Fixed that for you.

He didn't have "control" of the ball until he was out of bounds. But keep wearing the crimson glasses.
