We have put butts in the seats when the game matters.

Again, I want to stress this issue is not ours alone. Even bluebloods have been struggling with attendance.

Some bluebloods, such as Alabama and LSU, report attendance numbers which are clearly incorrect to the naked eye. If you watched even a fraction of the LSU/UL-Monroe or LSU/Arkansas games, you'd know there weren't 92,000 people there. The same thing is true for Auburn: there were huge swaths of Auburn's upper decks with no people in them in their game versus Mississippi State, yet Auburn reported a sellout.

Then, there are the programs that have simply stopped caring. Those programs are out west. Oregon State is having its best season since 2012, and even they can't sell out their stadium. They only had 29,579 in the stands this weekend when they beat a 7-4 Arizona State team. Their stadium seats over 43,000.

One thing that might be rectified via the Stadium renovation is putting in some sort of overhang that will trap the noise while providing some shade. As has been noted, VHS is a large flat bowl, the stands are pushed back from the field and the student section is completely open. All these issues allow noise to escape. A good architectural firm would be able to work on these issues while making the stadium loom more appealing
