Tennessee officially claims the following titles
1940 - 10-1, lost Sugar Bowl to BC, finished #4 in the AP, selected by Dunkel and Williamson
1950 - 11-1, finished #4 in the AP and #3 in the coaches
1967 - 9-2, lost Orange Bowl to Oklahoma, finished #2 in the AP and Coaches, only selector was Litkenhous
66% of their national titles are in years when the AP and/or Coaches poll existed and they did not finish #1 and were selected decades later by computer polls
