If we give out our maximum in scholarships this year, but lose five players to the portal, can we replace them from the portal? Meaning can we accept five transfers in from the portal and give them schollies?

I think it involves being registered for classes for spring semester in January and if i am wrong then I will be corrected shortly. But there's also maymester and summer semester to work with. I think the 85 cap applies to the start of each academic period.

Up to 7 initial counters can be added this year based on portal attrition numbers.

With that said, you still have to be under the 85 total scholarships at all times, so when the players transfer out and in would matter here.

I *believe* those ICs can go toward transfers *OR* incoming HS recruits. So instead of thinking about it with replacing portal loss with portal gain, just think about it as additional player adds... Kirby likely will prioritize HS recruits more often than not, and hit the portal for areas where we need immediate production (see: Kendrick this year). Good chance we are targeting an X receiver in the portal this year unless Pickens suprises and sticks around (only reason would be NFL draft projection numbers I'd assume).

Yes to rig's comment to my knowledge, the 85 number is essentially re-evaluated at the start of each new academic period start (technically you are continuously staying at or under the 85, but can only really go over by putting someone on scholarship at the beginning of a new period without space), but keep in mind that transfers are not all at one specific time. Some are ready to go in January, others like Kendrick last year aren't ready until May/Summer.
