Can anyone provide a better term than mistake? I am happy to call it something else.

Blunder?
Error?
Oopsie?
Gaff?
Misstep?
Miss-calculation?
Oversight?
Transgression?
Pecadillo?
Misdeed?

Yeah - Manslaughter. That's what he did. Let's call it that.

Negligence so fricking bad that it's criminal. Give me two words, and I'll come up with something better.

What he did was far, far worse than a "mistake". Which is why some here are so damn insistent on calling it that.

They know - words matter.

Homicide
Reckless endangerment

The point he's trying to make is that "mistake" doesn't quite do justice to what he did. It sounds dismissive. It sounds minor.

The fact that he regularly drove at dangerous, reckless speeds shows this wasn't a mistake. It was habitual. The speeding habit was the real problem. The alcohol turned his dangerous, reckless habit into something deadly.

He routinely put other people's lives in danger, and ended up killing someone.

He's a criminal who finally got caught.

A mistake is when you cut the board an inch too short.

Driving drunk at 156 mph and hitting another car causing a young woman to burn alive.

That is called murder.
